Auckland 2005

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Naki » Thu Dec 07, 2006 9:21 pm

Hey guys trying to add Rob Diebold's airport add on to Robin's Auckland scenery. So far so good but Ardmore is in a big ditch (wel the runways are) Presumably this can be fixed with the flatten swtich as per the inmstructions below that came with the Readme in the download. But where the heck is the scenery.cfg file? Thanks for your help in advance.

"8 Go into your main FS9 folder and open the "scenery.cfg" file. Find your Auckland Airports or Auckland 2005 section and add this line at the end of it:

Flatten.0=110,S37 1.45,E174 57.57,S37 2.65,E174 57.88,S37 1.92,E174 59.30,S37 1.38,E174 58.92

This flattens the area around Ardmore. Save and close the "scenery.cfg" file."

Cheers

Paul it's in your main FS folder, usually:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9"

Open the scenery.cfg file with notepad and insert the flatten at the end of the entry: (you do this after you have activated the scenery in FS, so it has already written the entry into the scenery.cfg file)

[Area.xxx]
Title=Auckland Airports
Local="wherever you keep addon scenery"
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=yyy
Flatten.0=110,S37 1.45,E174 57.57,S37 2.65,E174 57.88,S37 1.92,E174 59.30,S37 1.38,E174 58.92

Thanks - found the cfg and made the change - Ardmore now fixed but the GNZLAP parked a/c are in the air but I suspect that is becasue they think they are parked on the previous Ardmore and wil correct itself (maybe)?

Try COPYING the GNZLAP Afcad for Ardmore to:
Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\scenery
This should fix the AI elevation problem.

THanks Guys - I am using the 20m mesh - I'll see if Robin's fix will work

Hey Naki,

They are included in the whole pack of GNZLAP, so you will find them there... Although if you ask nicely people here might send the ones you need across to ya... I can help you if you want, I just need an email addy and what AFCAD you want :)

Search (right click the folders and look for NZAR) and remove all Ardmore entries, I think you have a legacy one lurking there.
Copy the GNZLAP AFCAD: AF2_NZAR.bgl into
Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery
and if that doesn't give the required result, also into
Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\scenery

Cant remember for sure because when i downloaded the Auckland Airports 2005 there is a special file in there that you need to use and that will definately cure the floating problem.
In fact if you download this auckland_real_nz_airports.zip then you will find it in there.

I experienced the same problem with NZAR and NZWP even though I only used 150m mesh. After some research I found that while the player's aircraft sits on the top scenery layer (the one with the highest number) - AI traffic sits on the lowest layer of scenery (the one with the default airport data). Naki, If NZWP has the same problem with you, try asking for taxi directions and see if the purple progressive taxi arrows float in the air. They will sit at the same level as the AI traffic.

The fix I found was to use a programme called JABBGL (I think from AVSIM.com and flighsim.com) which allows you to edit the default elevation data. I think it will even create a backup. Read the instructions fully though. The programme won't work properlly if FS9 is running and its default language is French, but you can switch it over. After a lot of trial and error, I got my elevation data sorted out.
