What annoys me a little is people bagging it. In my opinion only people who know/have sat NCEA and School C can compare, criticise or compliment the current system, i.e Teachers / Principals, and other school staff.

Yea? What sort of things did they not do well?

I sat Level 1 this year, seemed to be fine, there were a few minor errors on the papers but only minor, and most made very little difference to the way I answered the question. :)

This is just my 2cents on the issue but i think that NCEA has made it harder to distinguish from the students with a middle ability and a lower ability. This comes from my own personal experiance with some subjects particularly English where i have a tendancy to just scrape through or even fail some of the standards. I then have some friends who if you knew them are clearly less abled than me at english but get put in a differnt class where they sit different standards which are easier and still give them things such as UE. Now back in the old school C days this wouldnt have happened as they would have just failed that subject or got a lower mark. If the employer knows what on earth they are looking at then they can potentially spot that this person may have taken an easier course but IMO they would have either had to sat NCEA and have a good knowledge of the system or have spent a lot of time researching the subject.

The other thing that I have noticed is that before it came in everybody thought there was going to be a lot more internal assesment than before when infact there is far less. For example my brother who was in the last year of the old system had his english and science completely internally assesed in year 11 (5th form for all you odies :P ) whereas I had about 70% externally assesed accross all subjects. His 6th form certificate was completely internally assesd and i think i have had even less internal assesments this year and im not sure about Level 3.

Wow that was a lot and I am not trying to bag the system as such simply pointing out things that i have noticed that could do with adjusting.

what do you schoolies think of NCEA?

Well I am from England, and before I moved to NZ, we did had a marking system known as 'Cambridge' where you got a certain rankings according to what percentage of the test you got right. You needed at least a 75% to pass, and if you got 100%, you got a grade called "A star" which was easy to understand and sensible.

When I moved here and started using the NCEA system at school, I found it heaps easier to pass tests as there you only need like 4 or 5 questions right, (the eqivilant to a Cambridge 10%) to pass. Hence, I am in some of the top classes now (well I was this year before the summer holidays anyway)

my ex-high school was one of the first schools to run the Cambridge exams in NZ to supplement NCEA. Cambridge offers a bigger challenge for students so perhaps highlights the learning gap between NZ and overseas.
in my opinion, NCEA is overcomplicated and open to corruption from internal assessment in schools. School C and Busary should not have been scrapped, they were adequate and i believe still superior to NCEA.

It's not really about what they did wrong. IT's more about them knowing NOTHING about how NCEA worked. When I sat NCEA, the people who came up with the idea were still trying to figure it out themselves.

I would like to sit my exams (English, Maths, Geography and Science) again to see how I go now that its setlled a bit.

And I would remeber to make my full stops more visible. Thats the only reason I didn't pass my English exams. I was lucky and had enough credits to be able to apss without passing exams.

And thats another thing, who did NCEA stuff in Year 10 and was able to bank credits for Year 11 and NCEA Level One?

We did one maths AS in Year 10. And we sorta half got started on an English one, but that got screwed up badly, where some people got to finish, and others didn't. (I think) <_<

Food technology is a good class to take, if you have to.

The Assessments are easy and you get heaps of credit.

I got all my credits in year 10 from taking Food tech cla
