Hmmmmm.

Bit of a thorny issue, actually. Personally (and I speak for no one here but meself), I don't see that as part of a moderator's job.

Monitoring threads/discussion to make sure they neither breach the InvasionFree Terms of Agreement nor degenerate into defamatory slanging matchs ... yes. Editing posts for spelling or grammer (and here one really has to be careful, one misplaced word might alter the entire context of a post) ... no.

I agree with Dorian.

Moving a post to another thread is something moderators should do, that's not a problem for me.

Editing spelling and grammar is another issue. I could see how that would annoy people and: do you guys have too much time on your hands?

While I make sure my spelling in mostly ok, misspelling in forums isn't really an issue for me. It adds to the casual approach...

Personally,I think the moderators do a good job,but I don't think that they should have to correct spelling mistakes.As long as people can get the gist of what the writer is trying to say,although I can see how spelling mistakes could annoy some people.

From what I read in NZFF, life's too short for moderators to waste time correcting spelling. Schools don't (or can't).

As a moderator I don't fix spelling mistakes. It would take too long, there are just too many.
Also I wouldn't want someone reading a post they made thinking they can spell OK when it is clearly something they could work on. You can't change what you don't acknowledge.
The way people spell gives an idea of personality, english abilty, etc... and this is an informal forum anyway.
If I can get the gist of a post then others surely can too.
In life some people use the 'F' word in every sentence they speak! I don't know why this is but to me it indicates a very small vocabulary. It is a good thing we don't use that language here.
If some wish to be perceived as Bevis or Buthead I will not impede your freedom of expression. I will probably mutter something under my breath that will not be posted, and I certainly wouldn't reply.
I will only reply to posts that have a certain level of intelligence behind them,and I'm sure others feel the same way, life's just too short.
And I'm not perfect myself. I was asked by one member to use paragraphs, and rightly so, I'm glad he pointed it out.
Do I want people to read (or not) my posts and think, 'good point', 'yes' 'no' or not take any notice of what was written and focus on how it was written and think I'm not worth the time.
I have had very busy people take the time to really explain things to me that can take quite a while, and I really appreciate that. Would they have if my posts and e-mails were full of mistakes and bad grammer? I don't know but I suspect it might have made the difference.
After all we teach others how to treat us!

It depends generally moderation around here is ok but if you move a Topic where it technically shouldn't be moved then it is annoying.

The F word is commonly used by people as a spoken pause in some situation.(where they replace um with the F word to figure out what to say next)

I am a bit of a spelling geek, and that's pretty much all I do on the Aero Club site, make everything understandable. And I do edit the spelling of most posts BUT that's only because I know there could be someone reading who may not be good at understanding English and might get thrown out with it being spelt wrong.

And really, it's not hard to throw something through a spellchecker to make sure its right, right?

Sometimes people mis-spell deliberately for a laugh other times it may be because they are using babel fish to translate for them which leaves some quite interesting statements.
