NAC DC-3

Hi guys,

I saw in the IFR V VFR thread that Snowman and gokanru were asking about an NAC repaint for the default FS2004 DC-3.
Thought I'd post here in case others are also interested in it.

There is a nice repaint of the default FS2004 DC-3 in one of the later NAC Skyliner schemes on avsim.com by John Humphries.

File name is nac_dc3.zip

Only issue is that the logo is reversed on the tail on the left hand side due to the texture mapping on the default model.

Has SPANZ 2000 logo's on both sides but I don't know what their significance is to this scheme.

He has a whole stack of add on files for the default FS2004 DC-3 including a superb sound set recorded in and outside a real DC-3 that will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!

Ok guys, Ive figured out the SPANZ 2000 decals on the NAC DC-3 repaint.

It seems that John Humphries has painted restored DC-3 ZK-AWP as she appeared during the SPANZ 2000 commemorative flight and reunion tour from December 8th to 14th 2000.

Unless one of the tallented painters can find a way to texture out the SPANZ logo's which were removable decals on ZK AWP, (would check with John first) she won't be any good as a retro AI aircraft.

Still a very nice preserved propliner for growling around our beautiful countryside in which is exactly what I'm going to do now.

We have an NAC DC-3 in the works for the Retro project, as well as one in Mount Cook Airlines livery. Both are repaints of the Default FS9 DC-3.

I Think Ian Warren was going to have a look at doing a repaint of the default DC3 in SPANZ and NAC.Also I did suggest a repaint of the early Feildair DC3 as well.Ian Has a lot of projects going and it's just a matter of being patient i think.Lawrie are both grovelling at the moment and I must admit,getting very good at it

Hi Laurie and gokanru.

That is great news about the upcoming NAC, Mt Cook and SPANZ repaints for the default DC-3.

I like the idea of the Fieldair repaint as well.
There are some great dusting effects out there to make her fully useable in FS as well.
Speaking of Fieldair has anyone come across a good Loadstar yet?

Laurie, there is a Teal DC-6 repaint available that might be usefull to the retro AI project.
Also a DC-6 and DC-4 in the beautifull pollished metal of BCPA.

I bet it was quite a sight when Whenuapai was Aucklands international airport and the bid DC's, Strats, Connies, Argonauts and RNZAF Hastings were thundering in and out in between the local traffic.

I drove up there at 5.00 in the morning 3 or four times when the Conair DC-6 came here to do pest spraying quite a few years ago now and it was a sight and sound that I will never forget.
