i'm on xtra's go large plan. upload speed is dreadful, but apart from that its brilliant. i can easily get 5Mbit most of the time

I haven't heard anything about it, and I know of people who are on Slingshot plans long gone but still on the same conditions.

Its something like $10 for the second line, and anothor 10 for the internet (were on clear net)witch is still far cheaper than broadband. My parants had been looking at the differnt options for quite a while and I was suprised when they actuly decided to get a second line

Well you've all seen the full-page ads:
Telecom is now allowing broadband to go *Gasp* as fast as your telephone line allows!
And that means that I now get pretty close to the 3 Mb/s down, 256 kb/s up, that I signed up for, 2 years ago!
Isn't it wonderful what a little potential competition can do?

I'm with Orcon, mainly because they allow me 40GB a month.

Interestingly, their new plans include a 30GB monthly limit at the same speed for $10 more[/I]. I thought the Government announced faster, cheaper, broadband.

Orcon allows existing customers to stay on their old plan, so that's cool for now.

they haven't even set up that yet. this new generation of plans was when the commerce commission forced telecom to give its lines to telstraclear. i expect when LLU comes about that we'll see even better changes

My Science teacher moved to NZ from South Africa, and for our first class with her, we were getting to know her, and somehow we ended up talking about dodgy phonelines.

Apparently, someone dug up their phone line in the middle of the night and sold it as scrap metal

I know about the new "As fast as your line will go BS", ours maybe 1.5mbps max on a good day, downhill, with a tailwind . The point that I was trying to put across was that they do not force you to change plans . Sorry if that got lost somewhere...

If you'd like to upgrade to afaster plan you can do this through the Slingshot My Account section. In the meanwhile we'll automatically move you to the new Express Everyday plan which has an increased data allowance of 25GB per month "“ that's 22GB of additional data every month for the same price you're paying today!

So now I have a 256 connection and a extra 22GB allowance per month Not bad considering the most I ever use is 2GB

Yet if I want Faster connection I end up with just 1GB at 2mbs with a choice to pay 1c per mb over or slideback to 64K. Then the packages get more expensive and confusing.

Slingshot is on a winner here! If I want faster get a lower allowance therefore probably download more cause its faster, so the customers upgrade paying more.

Looking at the other plans offered theres not much better around, yet!

Currently on unlimited xtra dialup until Wednesday when we get our 2mb cable with 5Gb cap installed from telstra clear or whatever they're called now. Turns out this is actually cheaper than what we currently have with their tv and phone line as theyll give us a free upgrade to digital tv on one of the tvs and on the other tv which still has analouge it actually becomes cheaper and we get rid of the xtra dialup bill which is $30 a month i think. I am almost certain that one of my dads goals in life was to be one of xtras first and last customers on dialup (hes already acheived the first one) but when he found out it was going to be cheaper he kinda had to give in. I just hope that their service is not as poor as their customer service or I may have to go back to referring to them as Telstra Satin from the old days when they were telstra saturn. It is actually worse than Telescum and their service *gasp*. Now all i have to do is wait and see but in eager anticipation.

We go blimmin close to using 10 gigs every month, but usually end up around 9 gigs. Three pc's and a laptop with me and three kids (msn, CS, runescape, YouTube, Bebo etc etc) makes short work of it. I couldn't go back to dial up, the times I've used mums PC on dialup and it's like pulling teeth.

We are (currently) with Xtra. I haven't had any problems with them, but I switched to the Pro plan (full up and down), and got about 6000 kb/s down and 500-600 kb/s up.



The download speed was heaven and proved my line was capable of it. I wasn't comfortable about paying $80 a month though.

Even though it said you could only change the plan once a month I tried, and it's now on Go Large, which apparently gives me full download but only 128 upload. Cool thinks me, I know I can get great d/l speed, so for $49 a month I get that with no cap!

Download speed has now magically only getting 3100 (max download speed, that's what I used to get before on the 3.5 meg plan!??). It seems to top out at 3100 and has been as low as 1500.

I also have an IP of 125.XX.XX.XX, which, according to other forums appears to be the 'bad boy ip pool' for traffic shaping etc. Some are saying Xtra are 'working' on this....

TelstraClear's PDQ full speed with 10 gig looks good at $56 odd bucks. They switch off interleaving if asked (apparently) which can drop gaming pings by 20. The swetener is that they are giving 2 months of 10 gigs per month free and a free modem (will probably sell on TradeMe).

So I signed up with Telstra on Thursday and await them to get things underway. Time will tell if I have made a sanfu lol.

Try www.kol.co.nz they have unlimited Dial Up for $9.95 per month. From what I have heard they are also getting into the Broadband arena, although the website is pretty basic they are offering a very competative price.

And best of all you will still be able to keep your Orcon Email addie which unlike 99% of ISPs shut that down when you stop using the service provided.

Check the www.consumer.org.nz for more providers of cheap dial up dials!

Inspire I can rate as pretty good at $19.95 (I Think) for unlimited and well they are providing a Multiplayer server as well so they can not be that bad

As for Broadband! Yikes thats become even more of a confusing nightmare especially when to get $10 cheaper you got to swap your tolls over.Got to way the good with the bad to make a ADSL decision.

my house tends to go through significantly more than 10GB per month, so Go Large is the best plan for us
download speeds aren't too bad, i'm downloading the Battlefield 2142 demo at 385k/s, which while its only the equivilent of 3Mbit, its free data

Read their TOU,its very different.They advertise as unlimted,but they cut you off after 4 hrs,then you have to sign in again.

Bandit try Xnet they have unlimted for the same price and their service is excellent.At least on that you don't get cut off when doing a big download.You will find them under World Exchange.
