They are really getting into the swing of things FS2004 :D

Today they've released a Hercules model through the rnzaf website.

Now why would you want to upgrade to FSX when you can have these brilliant models from the RNZAF in FS2004!

Excellent find!

Just to quote the website:

RNZAF C130 Hercules model for Microsoft Flight Simulator
C130 Hercules Flight Sim Model Image.

Download a RNZAF customised C130 Hercules model for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

This download is provided as a service for people wanting a source of RNZAF aircraft models for use with MS Flight Simulator. This software has been tested on medium-level systems however the RNZAF accepts no liability for the performance or operation of these files.
*MS Flight Simulator is not used in recruitment criteria.

The downloads are for Microsoft (MS) Flight Simulator 2004.
Although designed and optimized for FS 2004 they will work on FS2002 but with slightly altered flight characteristics.

Download C130 zip file (29MB)

This model was created by AB Simulations for the RNZAF. Support for this model can be obtained from support@absim.co.nz

Name that bird?

Thanks for the heads up on the C130. Downloaded it and am really enjoying it, it flies well and the animations are pretty good (can someone please tell me how to completely lower the ramp - it only comes partway down?) but has anyone looked at the cammo scheme? Instead of the Kiwi in the roundel there is some strange creature...

...a turkey perhaps :P

It's a shame that the airforce cannot get it right on their own release. After all, who has better access for reference than the people who own the aircraft. Unfortunately the same attitude seems to pervade the Airforce itself these days when it comes to their markings. It seems to be rare for them to get the real thing painted correctly. For example looking at the lettering on the aircraft these days it seems that they just pick something from Microsoft Word and go with it. It isn't unusual to see a single example of an aircraft with up to three different styles applied to it.

At least they always seem to get the Kiwi right though... on the real aircraft at least.

Apologies to anyone who thinks this is nitpicking - aircraft colours/markings happens to be my pet subject :)

Actually it has a rather nice soundset, reverse thrust has that whistle/growl without overdoing it.
Come to think of it, you really would expect the Air Force to get that right since you'd imagine virtually unlimited access to the aircraft.
And who's the designer??
Steve stole my question - tailgate only opens an inch but I see Trolly's S/S has an open door?

Charl, the RNZAF website states that the aircraft are made by AB simulations.

To open the back door I use the wingfold and the tail hook,Once you have these configured the back ramp opens right down.It does sometimes pay to read the readme, thats where I found it.

Adrian Brausch did some good models of the C130 for 2002 which I still have and use.I also downloaded the p3 from the RNZAF site as well but have yet to fly it

Thanks gokanru, I had already tried the wingfold and tailhook commands, but the ramp still refuses to go down? I wondered if there was some other sort of trick that is needed to make it work?

Ah well, it flies well - even without the ramp working :D

To make the ramp go down check the assignments in your settings.I had to do mine and it works fine right down to ground level.I just assigned a key combination that I don't use for anything else for both the tail-hook and the wing fold.

Ah thanks Alex!

A neat addon for the C130 is parachutjumper.zip which adds jumpers to your Herc when you press 'I'
