You guys see Mythbusters last night I thought it was quite cool that they proved the jet pack was a myth.

I don't think they proved it at all. they proved you could build it, but it didn't lift off the ground even without Buster.

I think they proved that this particular design couldn't work mainly due to not enough thrust and it was too heavy.

Yeah Skycar with BRS as a backup incase you have an emergency. Jetpack=falling brick if you have a flameout. It makes my wonder about the LA olympics though, what sort of jetpack was that?

One additional famous appearance of a pack occurred on the opening of the summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984. The pack was piloted by both Bill Suitor and Gordon Yaeger. Suitor, a legendary personality (in all calculation more than 1200 flights "â€￾ more than in any other pilot to this day). Bill took off from platforms, flew above many spectators, who from the unexpected contingency covered their heads with their hands, and landed opposite the presidential platform, where sat Ronald Reagan. This flight was seen by 100,000 spectators on the platforms and about 2.5 billion television viewers (besides the USSR, which boycotted that Olympiad).

jetpacks do exist, but are impractical- they can usually only last 30 seconds
