Sorry all but the RNZAF repaints will have to go on hold for a while. My GFX card got fryed tonight. I Do not have fund to replace it so my repaints will have to wait until I can afford it.

I did have a ATI X700 pro 256mg mem.

I had a new digital tv system installed yesterday. It is connected to the phone line. The engineer had problems getting the phone to connect. After some fiddling he finally got it to work.
That night I tried to connect to the internet. BANG. Computer went off and when I tried to start it I had a black screen and no BIOS loading up. I swapped it for my backup (32mb NVIDIA) and all worked. I tried again to connect to the net and no joy. I think there was a power feedback in the phone line. When the computer tried to connect it surged the machine and the GFX card took the brunt of it.

I have contacted the company who fitted my tv system and they seem to think the same as I that the phone line is the cause. An engineer is coming out to have a look and do a report.

I'm just mad as the card was only 6 months old and I had saved alot of money for it.
I'll just have to see what the company say.

Thanks for the offering to try and find me a replacement. Very kind of you Ian.

Hopefully I'll have it all sorted in the not to distant future.

I'm a bad Dad

"Sorry kids. I stole your graphics card. I promise to put it back soon."

That's the note I left them. Can't live without my repaint fix. Using there graphics card for now. A big drop in quality but I can still do repaints.

Hold the Digital TV installer / company liable mate. Contact your insurers and let them know of the problem. Get anything you can from the install company that confirms that

a ) They actually carried out work at your place (install docket, contract for digital tv etc)
b ) They installed something that was connected to the phone line
c ) Mains Power was involved
d ) The most likely cause of damage to your card was power through the phone line

Ask them, casually, if this sort of thing has happened before, them make a note of what they say. Date and sign it.

I am involved in Liability law and claims as a part of my profession, so would be happy to help with advice on a Without Prejudice basis.

Thanks ZK-MAT

I had the engineering supervisor around Saturday. He gave everything the once over and came to the same conclusion as I did. The company is going to provide a replacement graphics card, give me 6 months free veiwing on all channel packages and replace the digital reciever for a higher spec box.
To do all that they are definatly admiting liability.

Should here from them early next week.

I also told them that I need the computer for my work so they are making the card the priority.

I've just had a phone call from my digital TV supplier. They are transfering funds today to allow me to replace my busted graphics card. Now all I need is to select one.

I coudl do with some advice from all those simmers out there. My old card is nolonger produced and I was wondering if anyone has any good recomendations in my budget. (£150 GBP max) ($260USD).
My old card was an ATI Radeon X700 pro 256mb AGP.

Here is my system specs

AMD Semperon 3400+
1.5gig 2700DDR memroy
K8N MBnforce chipset
750gig HD's

Any help on selecting a good card for my system would be great.

Many thanks

Dax

Ps, I have been able to continue with the repaints though. Here is a quick shot from the last in the RNZAF C-130's.

I have been a bit slow with this repaint. Partly as I am just adjusting to my nw workload at work with my promotion last week. Also it take a lot of time to get anywhere when doing a camo scheme. Here are a few shots. I only have the wings to do then it should b forwarded to Ian for testing.
