Think you can survive Vista with 2GB of RAM?

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Running with 4GB of memory vs. 2GB of memory yields gains in every single game we tested.  Improvements based on memory size alone ranged from 2% to 19% with some of the biggest gains coming from games that we had not expected.

so basically, if you really want performance from Vista (and therefore FSX under DX10), you'll have to fork out for at least 4GB of memory. Vista's going to be a real memory hog- it used over 1GB when it was idling after a fresh install!
i don't think anybody on this forum will be rushing out to buy Vista when it's released...

O dear  my pc only has two Ram slots

How much memory will fsx use when running on xp pro then?

I'll just be sticking with the vista customization pack untill the day we can buy 2gb memory sticks for 20dollars!

exactly...

Unless you are really rich, i dont see it necessary to get FSX and Vista.
I mean, i bet a good FS9 screenshot would be close to being as good as a FSX screenshot anyday.

yeah, i'd say it would be at least 2 years before the majority of flight simmers move to vista/FSX

Lets hope that same theory goes for all the current addon designers too...

I won,t be rushing to get Vista,it's got bugs in it already.Vista is the cut down version of longhorn and with microsoft's reputation,I would bet that within 12 months they will be putting out a sercurity patch for it.They have done it with every windows program since the release of 3.1 and Vista won't be any different.

I thought that Fly2 (once patched ) was getting there before it did a lowlevel half roll and pull through!

FS9 supreb . FSX is going to be Great ! RAM , G/Cards , Monitors , Sound Cards , Controllers , this is all part off FS , OPERATING SYS ? for our hobbie ??

XPLANE ( never really tried it but graphics reminder me of lotta earlier other FSims) , Over the years I've tried FlightUnlimited 1,2 and 3 - Fly 1 and 2 , still return to seen all the FSims by Microsoft as a Compare to all continued updates over decades now with all MS is the best , addons if u want to pay, great! then also look at all the freeware .

Vista, I guess the name will change close to its release .. I can't understand why an OPS is going to dictate FS ops , there must be a plug/adaptor so to speak to get all up and running .

Any person lookin at update on release , I am but when collected all possible thoughts and idea's/info and extra's , I need an upgrade(new)PC , I may end up as your Guniea Pig for new stuff , we will see .
