Rangitoto Exploding

Today I went to have a look at the Viking Display at Auckland Museum and while I was there, I checked out the new Volcanoes Exhibit which I'd recommend you all check out for yourselves.

Apart from loads of info and artifacts from previous NZ eruptions, there is a very clever mock up Auckland house built inside the museum, where you can sit down in the living room and watch TV. All of a sudden, the show cuts to with a mock TV1 News report saying Rangitoto is gonna blow, and you get it watch happen live out the house window, where a mock video of the eruption is projected. It is excellent when it shows the harbor exploding, and incredibly realistic when the lava and smoke rolls towards the house which then shakes and bangs and goes dark. Great stuff!

I also read a story about British Airways Flight 9 . The pilot of the 747 lost all four engines overhead Indonesia, plus all visibility except a 5cm strip of a side window. He successfully made an emergency landing at Jakarta somehow- a very thrilling story. Do any of you know if this has been re-created on film?

Another interesting thing I saw was a video of White Island. Someone really has to get that done in photoreal for fs2004 and add a whisp of smoke... we already have the decent mesh for it, so who is up for the challenge?

i read the book at high school. good effort by the pilots to touch it down. when the engines died, they had no idea why- they only managed to get the engines restarted a few thousand feet above the ground. i've seen pictures of the aircraft, the windshield is sandblasted opaque, the engines were really damaged too with the ash and rocks in the air.

I've seen Ruapehu errupt a few times that looks quite cool, theres a real nice photo somewhere of the erruption at night with lightning which looks quite awesome but I can't find it on the net.

Thanks for the link 'ZK-LGD'

Unfortuantly, where as all the other files on that page are linked to a download, the white island one is not clickable. Any chance of a direct link?

Also, I thought you shut down the Kiwi Air website, have you decided to get it up and running again?

I'll see about repacking it and post it on AvSim.

Ah the politics of flightsim  I do understand that the owner of Kiwi Air in New Zealand is awaiting the arrival of Mike Walters on new zealand shores before he can commence any further action ;)

Glad we are a more friendly bunch here
