Looks awesome Ian!

Any chance of showing us a map to display the area covered by this photoreal addon?

When this is free for the public to download, a NZFF Aero Club baseat Taieri might just be built...

Anyway, can't wait for it to be compleated! Keep up the good work :D

Dunedin, Dunedin...that's south of the Bombay hills, isn't it?
Ah well we've got a couple of weeks to research the topic...

When I find the time I'll update my old Taieri Airfield and release it to match.

Perfect guys, The area includes my house half way down the bay,as we call it and a NZFF club at Taieri is an early xmas present.
I have saved up a small budget for a digitat camera now and can I have some suggestions on what to get. It doesn't need 3 mins of video or to make phone calls I just want photo's that suit our purposes for scenery building. Any help here willl be much appreciated as I don't want to end up with some useless junk that a salesmen conned me into.
And how about 2nd hand off trade me? or are 2nd hand camera's to be given a wide berth. Thanks in advance. Then I'll be able to contribute something to the Dunedin scenery area of real value.

Hey you don't have to go THAT far back!!
There's a statute of limitations on foolish statements y'know!
And I found this stuff first, before Ian had even thought of announcing it.
Does this give some credit??

You have a work where you don't dip in and out of the online experience on a fast internet connection??
You're probably lucky then, you won't get clamped down on :
(I think it was) 30,000 TradeMe transactions this year reported on government-owned computers... :o welcome to the wired world.

I like the "feel" of the scenery and am still exploring it, noticed trees along some watercourses lined up well.
How about a quick walk through what's involved with creating a scenery like this, so we know it's not all accidental?

I'm not very good at dialogue/book writing , maybe another could explain , it is super simple , D/load - Annotator AGN default program , I think its the time involved once u see an area that really scare's lotta people , or in there words (stuff this) , me enjoy bit by bit and watch it grow . cruzy and relaxing .

Ian :)

Here's a shot of one of the Dunedin tiles in the Annotator.

user posted image

The boxes are drawn in individually. The green boxes are trees/vegetation, the red boxes are buildings. Oh, first you get to choose what sort of trees are displayed in the whole tile.
Then, for this particular scenery, you do that all over again with the other 1,119 tiles:)

Different folk have different styles, this is definitely Ian's style. There are other Annotators around, I tend to use different tools for different jobs -- for example, one tool has a 'detect forests' button, which helps with large areas of trees, another places houses on a curve, which helps putting houses around Wellington's hills.

If there is such a thing, then Ian is an autogen artist...

I'll need a fix to bring the water in the harbour to sit right for the 20m mesh, other than that an excellent canvas to put buildings etc... on. I'll have to learn GMAX and so on now. EZ scenery should be a good place to start though so I can put in ships and other boats on their moorings,(like mine for instance!)
Also the roads from the Red Baron 20m&topo have gone, can I bring them back somehow? Still a good overall improvement with the beaches and inlets and mudflats etc... The shape of the place gives a good idea of what a scenic place it is.
In regards to life beyond the Bombays, to me it is better, no traffic jams, no racial tension, and no P problem. The local cop, (who says to me don't let the town cops see you have no warrant on that truck etc...) tells me Dunedin has not got a meth problem yet! The drunk students stick to themselves. It has lots of old historical buildings and is just a nice relaxed lifestyle and has been called NZ's best kept secret.
I have visited and worked in Auckland alot when I lived in Hamilton and would not like to live there. A lot of people have to for their job etc.. If Aucklands taxes pay for the rest of us to have the lifestyle we enjoy I say thankyou very much for leaving home at 6am to get to work at 7.30am and get home at 6.30 at night, poor buggers. You soon get used to the lower temps down here but are rewarded with snow and no flies and few mozzies.
The good thing about what we do though is if you have a half decent PC and a copy of FS it doesn't matter where you are, we're all in the same place here. :plane:

Oh my word, I don't know how many folks would be aware of just how much work goes into it.
I certainly did not.
I will look on these sceneries with different eyes from now on.
As to the last comment, I agreed even before this newfound knowledge
