Thought this might be an interesting idea for a topic: How did you get your username?

From an early racing game -- the default name was TOPGUN, and you had to backspace backspace backspace backspace backspace backspace to enter your own name, but I only had the patience to backspace backspace backspace...

I'm a HUGE fan of the Spitfire, and one day I hope to own and fly a replica of the prototype (K5054), and as a lot of my time is spent on overseas forums/fora I decided K5054NZ would be a cool handle.

Besides, it's easy-ish to remember. B)

Codge is actually the username of a friend who's computer I used untill I got my own. I've just kept it going cos there is so many sites with that login name now I'd have to rejoin them all. I have his pemission and I use his trade me too as it has a long history with a 100% rating. It sure helps to keep me honest.
Good idea for a thread Trolly cos some usernames make you wonder, It will interesting to see a post here from HardCorePawn! (Maybe he buys things alot from pawn shops, hence the spelling.)

gokanru,is derived from gokanryu,it is the name of the karate club that my kids attended.I just dropped the y in it.I think the club is still strong in the Auckland area.

Wasn't too hard, being scottish I found steel much better than leather to fit a deadlock on.

I always thought about starting a topic like this, but never did  good one trolly ;)

Well my name isn't that interesting ,I originaly used it on flightsim.com(first site I ever joined :D ), I wanted james but that wasn't gana be avalible and "jimmy" would be taken aswell so I used jimmy+hm.."jimmyhm" my middle and last name initials after the jimmy.

Then I came here and just used Jimmy lol I suppose I could have made it just "james" now I think about it hmmmm.....

I was looking at the Royal Albatross site in Dunedin to see if I could sponsor a bird or the colony the morning I signed up. Then I figured it metaphorically suited my simming style.. Lives in New Zealand but usually flies a long way from home :D

Believe it or not, but I have actually been refused usage of this username on a couple of sites!! and once when I was at an allnight LAN at the old Warp9 in New Lynn

The avatar should give away the source of the name tho... I was browsing through the poster rack at some random shop (might actually have been a rebel sport from memory) and saw the poster... I used to be a fairly "hardcore" chess player, and I liked the pun... weird sense of humour I guess...

cheers,
HCP

ps. It is really really hard to scan an A1 sized poster into the computer with an A4 flatbed scanner

pps. It is almost as hard to turn an A1 shaped scan into a square avatar of less than 15k and still be able to see the detail/read the words

ppps. I can neither confirm nor deny any rumours that the nickname has anything to do with pictures of nekkid ladies :ph43r:

Good one HCP. I am a resonably keen chess player myself. I'm an average player I reckon cos my wins and losses are about the same.
It seems to be fairly hard to find people to play with these days. I would say computers are to blame as board games must seem pretty boring to the younger generation, which is a pity. A decent power cut would get them into it,especially when you explain to them that in the olden days 2 kings would just have a game of Chess instead of putting their armies to all the trouble of a real battle, and if one of them cheated or even touched a piece and then decided to move a different piece, the other King would draw his sword and chop off the offending Kings head!

HCP, is that the one that was at the mall? I used to go there when I lived in New Lynn to download FS stuff (too slow on the XTRA dialup at home).

Well, here's mine: my nickname is Big Dog, I played gridiron for a team called the Sharks, and my gridiron number was 62. Simple enough. B)

yeah... I used to live in New Lynn, when I first moved up to Auckland and would occasionally go to one of those all-nighters they would have every now and then on saturday nights...

was really handy having the 24 hour woolworths next door where you could go and load up on crisps, chocolate bars and V :)

the only issue I had was that I felt like a bit of an outsider, as most of the guys there seemed to live there or something as they all knew each other and had a fairly tight group.

Good one HCP. I am a resonably keen chess player myself. I'm an average player I reckon cos my wins and losses are about the same.

yes, I know that feeling... we used to play a lot at school during lunchtimes... chess and 500... and because everyone was around the same level, it often made for some really intense battles.

It seems to be fairly hard to find people to play with these days. I would say computers are to blame as board games must seem pretty boring to the younger generation, which is a pity. A decent power cut would get them into it,

Errrr, but then we wouldnt be able to play FS?!?!?!!?!!!

Chess is the only "fun" board game i'v ever encounterd, all the other ones just depend on damn good luck to win them <_< although those gameswith questions are also a bit of fun

I'm seeing a trend here, lots of members played chess and now play flightsim... weird.

I used to play it a lot competitively, then realised it was a 'nerd' sport, and now only play occasionally at home with my brother
