Its now getting to the desktop and staying there not shuting down but comes up with a box saying"your computer has recoverd from a serious error" and something about haw it created a log, I looked at what I think is the log of the error and it had the path to "mydocuments,prouser,locals,temp,...." then a file name which I can't remember.

So as it was working I started the system restore and tried to take it back to before i installe media player 11 Beta.

It did all that okay ,shut down then was doing the system restore thingy with the progress bar then it gets to almost the end of the restore progress bar and its as if theres a power cut and it shutys down

I'v tried doing what I just mentioned many times and it does the same thing.

The only way I can describe what happens is like theres a power cut and theres no power for a second because after it does its wee thing it just starts starting up again as if there was a power cut.

Oh and sometimes during startup itll just stop (power cut kinda thing) even before it gets to the "welcome" blue screen.

Thanks again
James

You installed MP11 and tried ripping a CD, right?
Sony has installed a rootkit which is designed to stop the practice...
Just kidding.
But you do have up to date anti-virus running?

Have you actually powered it down completely? Letting it restart from an error like this doesn't always work.
You may need to start in safe mode, and try restore from there.

Hehe no i havent ripped a cd for 3days now, arn't I doing well :D lol

I have no anti virus software simply cos I only got the pc a couple of weeks ago and it had none installed.

I managed to get it to restore and then sucsefuly shut down the computer and left it for a while then tried to start again.

The very second it got to the desktop picture it just cut out again. :(

I may know whats happend..

I'll explain what I did firstly:
(times are aproxamite)

16:25-started pc but noticed I couldn't hear the GPU's fan so I shut it down to see if itll work if I start up a second time.

16:27-started computer up for 2nd time, half way threw start up it suddenly stoped (like during a power loss) and started to restart

16:30 threw to now was spent doing what I mention above.

The interesting thing is that four thirty (would be a ruff apoxamate time, was said on the news ;) ) there was a power cut near here, although the cut didn't affect our area but there was a bit of a powersurge. :o

So i'm supposeing that that surge came just as I was starting my computer up for the second time  It could have done very nasty evil things :(

potentially that could be the cause. using a surge protector is always a good insurance idea.

its the fact that it works up until the welcome screen that suggests the hardware is still intact. is the hard disk making unusual noises?

try booting into safe mode (press F8 just after the bios loads). if it works, then its a software issue, and i'd suggest a system restore

Thanks for all the help so far guys :)

Yeah I'v done safemode thing and i just left it on the desktop in safe mode for about 20mins and nothing happend,So I shut it down then started again normaly, it was normal untill just after the black windows loading display then flashed a blue screen with all this code i think on it (real quick for only like 1second) then started restating it then loaded fine and nothing happend.

So I started fs and loaded up the defulalt flight at tacoma intl in a 172.
It keeps comeing up with "fs9 has encounterd a problem and needs to close"
This happend first when loading (so I started it again) then the second time whn I switched to tower view just after the flight loaded.
apart from that It seems to all be working but performance has realy droped and even thing like opening explorer take a long time , so pc performance has had a bad hit too.....

you were saying it worked fine in safe mode. Perhaps your video card is on its way out?

If it works fine in Safe Mode, I reckon you have a software issue. ;)

From an insurance assessor's (yeah that's me) point of view, ring your power supply company and get them to send something to you that could support a claim against your parent's contents insurance for the PC.

My kids' 800mHZ P3 PC started playing up a year or so ago and I was sure it was software till I was doing a claim for a nearby resident who lost several appliances in a power surge. I checked with the Power Company and they were able to confirm that there were power fluctuations at our address.

I lodged a claim, the insurance company, took the PC and had it checked, the repairer said that they couldn't rule out a power fluctuation as the cause, and we got a P4 2.8 as a replacement... well the kids did.

At the moment Jimmy is doing a complete scan of the hard drive to eliminate the possibility that rogue code did this. ;)

Hi Jimmy,

You said you did a system restore, and it didn't help much, have you tried resetting your bios, also if you have been on the net at all, without an anti virus, you may have a bug in your computer.A good anti virus program is AVG,get the free version, the updates are free also.

The fact that you can start up in safe mode suggests to me that you have a bug in your my documents folder. In safe mode you only load the minimum drivers, does your performance increase in safe mode, even slightly, you also mentioned that you got a message saying something about your my documents folder,if you get that message again write down the full message, like the path name, but I would definitly get and anti virus on your puter.

Yeah....Insurance won't be a option as the exses is at $500 anyway (price of my pc) :( good thought thow.

Heres what i'v done in the last 7 hours:

Did a sucseful system resotre to this morning

Installed avast anti virus and did a scan

I think it must be software cos performace is shokling ,like a old 300mhz almost, keeps locking up.
It worked with out turning off for a while after I hadnt been turning it on and off for a while (when I was busy on this pc downloading avast) but after a while it started restarting heap and heaps like before.

So it could be overheating couldn't it? I noticed i couldn't hear the GPu fan again when it was scaning, I did a update of avast and it was scaning again but the puter just shut down so it never completed.

Thats all I was able to do today, nothing at all has changed from when I first encounterd the problme 7hours ago (and all I wanted to do today was actuly FLY for once :( ) I hope to fix it tomrow

Thanks
James

Interesting comment on AVG Natas. I didn't know that. There had to be some difference between the free and payware I suppose.
I use AVG over Norton which I do have acess to if I want it.Even tho it's not free.
I prefer AVG as Norton gets in really deep into your system and slows things down too much for us simmers. Be fine for non-simmers but we need every ounce of performance we can get.
All of the viruses I encounter are from downloading music using bit torrent. AVG seems to deal with them effectivley so far. I haven't noticed any problems after the viruses have been found and dealt with.
I think regular 'House-keeping' defrags, registry cleans and the like are the best thing we can do to keep things ship shape.
As for you Jimmy I can't help sorry. Maybe your 'Don't Click Here' nonsence has backfired on you!

I personally use Avast! anti-virus (www.avast.com), it looks good, and functions really nicely, never had any problems with it. ;)
