Great Sceneries Outside NZ Thread

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Bandit » Fri Jul 28, 2006 10:07 pm

This has become a new addon scenery thread for Eceptional Scenery Outside NZ.Thank You Bandit for starting this thread. As you can see I've tidied it up and set the rules(with Trollys' blessing of course)
As a rule NZFF is just that,a NZ forum about NZ Flightsimming.
As a rule there is an exception to every rule. The exception is called 'Exceptional Scenery Outside NZ' because you have found a scenery package that you feel an exception should be made to speak of it here because it is exceptionally good.
It should be freeware sceneries only(Red Baron Cook Islands for example has it's own thread and is NZ anyway(They use NZ currecy don't they?)
The list on this thread is not meant to get too large,it should never overtake the spirit of NZ simming, the purpose includes some good destinations for big iron pilots who fly the 'Red Eye Special" flights from NZ to where ever, which you can tell us about in the "Flights" thread on the main NZFF page.( I had to think of some way to tie this to NZ!)
A guideline is such that the sceneries should have a 76m mesh or better, preferably 38m and 19m or 20m is best.Since most of us (it seems) have the Red Baron 20m&Topo we don't want our time wasted with inferior material do we?The "Project Canarias" 3 file package mentioned in my post further down is a classic example as it takes a while to get and install, although it is easy to install,it has a proper installer,it is mainly waiting time but is worth it.Thank you, please impress us all!
The next 10 posts show how this thread came about.

I've just loaded up and had a play in a great location.

OK it's not a NZ area (can we mention non NZ scenery?) but the terrains similar.

Columbia River package over in Hovercontrol. Includes 38m Mesh, Topo plus extra scenery.
Would be fun in the Piper Cub or a Bellenca but combined with the HC Scenery files for the area it's even better for us Rotorheads.

Our own West Coast is always worth a nose around. The old Deer Recovery strips up some of those valleys look impressive in the books.

Anybody else found any interesting places to play?

Apologies to all. Realised after posting I should have probably put this in the Flights thread.

I intended it to be about interesting Scenery you'd seen around NZ.

Though on this topic I see Robin is taking advance orders for his upcoming Wgtn package.

Hi Bandit,

I also have this scenery installed and love it!

The mesh and landclass for Mt Hood and Mt St Helens is stunning!

BTW- these forums are supposed to be for NZ scenery, but I don't mind making an exception for packages this good, once in a while ;)

Well thanks anyway for steering me toward this scenery package,I haven't visited Hover Control for a while so at least one person (me) appreciates your post whether it's in the right thread or not.As moderater I'm saying it is in the right thread because it is a scenery that is needed before you could take any flight there so I won't be moving it.If Trolly says otherwise he can move it if he wants, but since he's alresdy replied and seems happy enough. I agree with him too that excellent sceneries from other parts of the world are quite acceptable, especially if they are freeware that is payware quality. That Canary Islands package I would put in this catorgary too.Maybe we should start a thread called Exceptional Scenery from outside NZ,with the keyword being exceptional because an exception has been made.I would say it would have to be at least 38m mesh with other goodies too.38m mesh on it's own would not qualify because there is so much of it around now.19 or 20m is best of couse so I would say anything on par with the Red Baron 20m&topo would qualify. If you see this post Trolly and agree I'll leave it to you to start the new thread,I don't mind moderating it if you decide to go ahead, after all we don't want to called cliquey Kiwi backward so and so's.Also our big iron pilots need destinations on their international flights, and we do want to hear about them in the flights thread especially if the destination has a cool addon freeware scenery involved.

Hi Codge,
I like the "Exceptional Scenery from outside NZ" thread idea, and I'm happy to give your permission to start that post- although please don't make it a sticky ;)

Cheers!

Right, some forums I've been in have a drawing pin icon for pinned and a yellow splotch for sticky. So if we've merged the two then that simplifies it as I know what pinned is. In these other forums but don't think I ever looked in a sticky, maybe I thought I might get stuck there!

Anyway my contribution to this new thread is 'Project Canarias'. Sorry guys I don't yet know how to provide these excellent links to the downloads but this is worth navigating to manually. Go to Flightsim.com and then FS2004 Scenery and type in project canarias. It is 3 file download. That is the first 3 on the page.It has a 19m mesh as well as all you will come to expect from thi thread!Easy self installing directions.Tis a big file and takes a while for the installer to do it's job. Many airports including international.(the one where 2 jumbo's collided, worlds worst disaster at the tim, maybe still,I don't know)

Thanks Guys.

It was not my intention to take anything away from the spirit of the NZFF site. I totally agree with it. I got a bit excited with the find and probably didn't word the post correctly.
I intended to solicite Scenery area's that you'd seen in NZ that were worth a look.

Codge seems to be on the same wavelength as me when it comes to scenery. So bring it on. If it's NZ scenery all the better.

Kiwi's can fly.

Good on ya! BTW I think the new Hamilton Is off the Queensland coast is worth a mention. It will be included in the next VOZ release anyway.
However it is a scenery over the default mesh so I can't say it's exceptional, Ive been doing a bit of Great Barrier Reef flying to see where the 'Croc Hunter' was spiked by that stingray. A real tragedy and now Peter Perfect too! I was looking foward to him taking the old Holden to England too.

New Exceptional Scenerie Outside NZ:
Canberra Photoreal Released, by Patrick Fogarty
user posted image

Grab it from the VOZ forums here: http://vistaoz.org/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=10&t=5766

Once installed, I will have photoreal captial citys for both Australia and New Zealand. Sounds like an excuse for a trans-Tasman flight... ;)

Yep 'onya, there was talk of an island hopping flight to Oz a month or two back. Have I missed it or is it still on. Could you update us all on it please. (that is if I haven't missed anything) Cheers, and looking foward to it.

If somebody wants to make a nice VFR flight abroad, the next scenery update is just released. It's in my backyard (about 40 miles NE) and shows some of the beautiful North Frisian Islands of Germany. I spent many Fs9 hours in this area between Holland and Norway.
This scenery is about 16 Mb:

Those photoreal islands look quite nice Bardos- in fact I quite feel like a change of scenery.

The flightsim.com links never work, so can you please post it's file name instead?

Absolutely concur.
Try this next time you need a lift.
Turn your computer sound up as hard as the household will allow.
Buy a big subwoofer first.
Load the Islander.
Switch to spot view, 3m away from the plane.
Start the engines.
Rev.
:D :D

Yes Charl that is a favourite party trick of mine :P

The sound set that comes with the BN is the best freeware soundset I have ever heard!
