An A320 has landed at NZNS (just

) in real life, why not a 747 at Milford? Flaps 40, spoilers armed, autobrakes max, and get your finger ready on F2. :lol:

while we're on the subject of reverse thrust, i can't understand why MSFS doesn't have a dedicated key to enable it (like x-plane)

anywho, there was a 747 that landed in south africa (which i can't find the thread for) really short. its possible

shortest b744 landing I have observed myself was a singapore airlines flight that floated along 23l at NZAA and touched down at the A7/A8 intersection and came to a stop midway A9-A10 - had to put power on again to taxi forward to A10! so much smoke that you could only see the top of the tail literally snaking side to side under braking - wish I had a permanent video camera up here at times.

the real problem there would be getting a 747 outta there (nzmf) :lol:

would have to chopper it out bit by bit ,, or have a really game pilot with no payload almost zero fuel full flaps ?

I watched when Air New Zealand landed one of their 747s at Wellington. They were testing to see if Wellington could be a feasible diversion in an emergency.

I, along with a lot of others waiting at the far end of the runway, was both disappointed, and amazed when it landed and stopped after only using about half the available runway length! Didn't get anywhere near us before turning off the runway.

Wasn't there to witness the takeoff, but apparently it got off fairly easily as it was very lightly loaded. The theory being that a 747 can land at Wellington when loaded, but not depart again unless everyone gets off first!

I also remember a few years back when Qantas used to run their regular flights to Wellington using 747 SPs - the shortened version of the 747 - and they never had any trouble either full or empty. I think they had a much improved performance over the standard 747 though.

no doubt it could land in wellington. but 737s have been known to touch down half way down the runway in a stiff wind, so its not entirely safe proposition for a laden 747 from LAX. at least not until they further lengthen a runway

Thats what a friend of mine (a FO in the A320 for ANZ) told me, they diverted from their original destination, my friend was in the right hand seat for that landing.

Apparently they used autobrakes level 3 for that landing.

That pic reminds me, when I was at Wellington earlier this month both Christchurch and Auckland were closed, so there were a couple of 767s sitting around all day. (I'll just link to the image because its too big for here.)
I was just finishing up 3 hectic days, the last job being a flight over the city to take some photos -- thanks to AV8, who run a Hughes 500 out of the airport. When I landed I was knackered, so I thought I'd have a quiet sit and watch the planes. Bob Leask wandered up and introduced himself. He takes most of the Wellington photos on Airliners.net. He was waiting to shoot the 767s taking off. He took me up the end of the runway where he likes to shoot from, and we waited for a while, but those planes seemed there for good. I had to catch a flight, so I left him there, but by the looks of it he didn't manage to get a shot, because nothing's turned up on Airliners.net.

OH. Yeah, that nodding action was especially good, would endear you to the passengers alright!
And especially good was that slowing down trick of dipping the tailcone in the water. That in the Airbus manual somewhere?
