On that I'm going to give the old 72 the orginal paint , so many hours searching for result , stupid not to do it ! , as it will complement your Herc paint !
Hell off a mission to find a Simple Markin , I will keep that in mind for any other paint that may come along :)

Super Extra Thought .. and would look WICKED ! any person out there with the CAP SIM C130(justflight) , CS727(justflight) , thought ... other CAP SIM 757 , all 3 in formation for a Screen shot Debut ! ;)To the RNZAF paint ? - I don't have the 75 yet , with the new update , it lookin a next buy anyway so not issue to show up quik .

Be a first RNZAF Capsim flyby!

Dax , LOOKIN SUPERB , Have main resource books away , Deane is your RAF/ RNZAF counterpart so he may be able to get details , I will recheck the plan's incase i have missed any relevant detail .

I am Very sure the roundels on Herc were KIWIs got a pic off NZ7002 Jan 1969 , other publication 1967 still do show old fern style , but from memory whole AF was going thru transition update as with paints .

Lookin at that NZ7002 photo , I personal would say never did a Herc have a fern in the roundel , in same period the Camberra then transition to A4 lost that , Deane you be able to Confirm that .

KIWI Roundel Dave B) :D

I can confirm the roundels were circle and fern on the original aircraft delivered in 1965, which also had silver rather than grey paint and yellow prop tips. I have pic of a herc 01 on the ice in a book which shows this. It does not appear to have the compass on the tail either.

As you pointed out the re-paint transition happened very soon after most likely.

Without being too pedantic, as a rule of thumb, if the re-paint is going to represent a newly arrived mid 60's aircraft then paint would be as above. From the late sixties on - grey paint, kiwi roundels and red on white prop tips and compass on tail. From mid eighties approx 1987 the green camo came in and the grey in the past 2 or so years.

The paint planes that Ian provided are the working copies used by the paintshop guys. It has the complete layout for all the schemes through the years.
The 60's scheme has the bare metal lower half with the compass on the tail.
Unfortunatly it doesn't have details of which roundel was used and I think the standard warning marking (Like escape hatch location arrows) are on another suppliment. The prop colours would be in the suppliment too.

Here is one of the plans Ian sent me.

Thanks Deane , I was'nt sure . My only Resource "Gateway to the ICE" , is the book mentioned I lent out , I hope havn't lead Dave astray , they did come in 2 Batchs so may be cause off Decal matching ,

Deane , Your thoughts agian , is it worth the fern roundel ! , effort for paint , mybe no 1 would use ? .. this to put DAX on road to finish this early scheme , I would go with KIWI , not sure how polished metalic Dave can get underfuselage for that was period also.

Ian did you get the review repaint to install?

I am happy to do both. I'll use the Kiwi on the next repaint. That only requires a little work to make it to the 1980's scheme. Change the bare metal to grey and replace the roundels. Add a few bits of detail here and there. Nothing too big.

The plans you provided are dated 1969 so I think it best to use the plan layout and state that the repaint is for that year.

The other plans are date 19 May 1981 and the camo plans are 20 Nov 1994.

You asked for the repaint Ian so you are the boss. My rules are you are the customer and the projects is not complete until you are 100% satisfied.

I re made the prop texture. I remember the extended boots on the RAF Herc but we only had them for a short time. Same as the all black props. They didn't last very long at all.

Oh ho...
As a self-confessed landing gear fetishist, it causes me no shame to admit that props turn me on, also.
Don't you just love it, when the net is a little slow, and a picture loads stripe by stripe, how your grin progressively expands all the way around your head :D

I could've done too. Worked on Mk 1s on 74 and 6s with 11 sqn. Preferred the Hunter but they could only do Avpin flavour.

Looking Good Dax , I also spoke to person today confirm the Fern in the roundel on the first Batch - C130s NZ7001/3 delivered in April 1965 , the next batch 04/05 were delivered in Jan 1969 , this is were the Roundels changed moving further to modernize entire AF .
I should have that book back saturday , will just for interest if I find a relevant photo will send for interest .

Here's a few progress shots from the 1980's colour scheme. Just working on the finer detail now.
