Adrie you stole my thunder!
I had just fired up the sim to take the screenshot below, and came back to see your post.

My announcement was going to say:

STOP PRESS
Ian Nunn has made contact with Adrie van Dijk, who's painted more of these AI aircraft than he remembers.
Adrie has generously forwarded ZK-NPR (seen here climbing out of home base Napier, weather authentic unfortunately).
Well done Nunner, this is a huge boost for our project!

I'm sure it will add immeasurably to our project to have access to Adrie's expertise.
As a hack painter myself, I know how hard it is to get stuff like fonts right.
Access to Adrie's original work will save hours of fruitless labour I'm sure.

Adrie, thanks for showing up here, and welcome to the GNZ LAP :D

Crazy effects with the video Charl  lol, does the yellow Jeep come included too?

Seriously though, I can't wait for the release! It will be great to see some real AI overhead kiwiland, and will be great to show off in leg #3 of my tour ;)

I notice you say "first" release on the video... does that mean that there will be additional updates for specific regions or something?

I had a look at the file sizes today.
Jenks' paints are generally 1MB or so, mine for some reason are double that.
Even if I manage to downsize my paints, that is still maybe 60MB for zone 2.
My thinking is to do bite size releases weekly of say 10 planes.
What do you reckon?

It seems like you have two options:

1. Zip them up into one huge big "base pack" that we download on the 8th of August, and then download updates every so often when a new batch if compleated

2. Release the aircraft zone by zone, although I am not sure how that would work with the aircraft with inter-zone flight plans...

How about holding a poll to decide?

howdy,

i'd vote: release it all in one package. 60mb is only about 2-3 hours d/l on dialup.

I like the 60mb idea too, but will be happy with whatever outcome.

Would it be too tricky to ask for each of the AI traffic aircraft to have the same "UI Manufacturer" in the aircraft.cfg such as "Great NZ Light AI Project" or something, as I like to be able to distinguish between my flyable craft and AI traffic while browsing for an aircraft to fly...?

try janosoft's aircraft typer, an excellent little programme. it removes any reference to any/all ai in your ac selection menu; helps speed fs boot up too. can be found here.

Yes it would be good to see some HTAI Pipers.
Maybe all the new Cessna business will inspire Henry T to get them out!
'Course the Cessna's way outnumber Pipers so we can paint away for some time before using up the supply.
And while on the subject of numbers, here's the final Zone tally for aircraft in the GNZ LAP:

Zone 1 49
Zone 2 669
Zone 3 296
Zone 4 106
Zone 5 304
Zone 6 175

Grand Total 1599

Hi Charl. I forgot to ask you earlier when we were disussing that ##@@*y telephone pole,......... I dont have the Payware HTAI stuff in my sim. Can i just install the twins you said were freeware, and the traffic bgl ?? Will those work by themselves ??

Lawrie.

Yes the freeware will run without the HTAI models.
Take a look at some of the screenshots here, of the single-engine Cessna's, and you might be tempted to lay out the 15 bucks.
The problem is, further down the road the mix will be 90% Cessna's because most of the GA is Cessna, by a huge margin. And the second highest, Piper, is not well represented in FS9 AI

Yes Charl..................................... the link to the Cessna's was not necessary. I have been keeping a close eye on the project. Convinced now to fork out the $$. he heh. (if only to be able to squeeze something smaller around that ##@@*y telephone pole) !! heh heh. Thanks for the reminder to shake the cobwebs out of my wallet. Heh heh.
