These photos taken by my dad while waiting for his flight in the departure lounge at SYD, heading back to AKL. The aircraft are using runway 25 in Sydney (the east-west runway). As its the shorter runway, the heavier (longer distance) aircraft are using the longer runways to depart yet still a few jumbos using this runway for departure.
Taken on 1 July 06, between 1pm and 3pm local time.

And the tiny A320 is dwarfed by the Austrian 777-200ER parked at the gate. Yes sadly, this tiny pressurised aluminum tube is your flight home.

Frickin awesome Zöltuger!

Is your father a professional photographer? Sydney sure gets a wider variety of airlines than Auckland!

sure does. clearly checking in early for your flight is a good idea in sydney...

he's not a professional photographer, but he likes to reel off photos on his digital SLR camera.
and he works in the travel industry, so not only does he like travel/aircraft, he's often around airports across the globe.

so photography + aircraft + airports = cool pics!

Wow, didn't know they had the 747-800 out yet, let alone Virgin Blue bought some :P . But great pics, would be wonderful to see some more. :D

Nice pics! I guess you don't like the new United livery, I actually prefer it to the old one but that's just me. (although the last time I flew United was when they had the white livery!)

yes. boeing decided to do away with the second floor too. kinda looks like a 737 from that angle actually.

FlyingKiwi, you're right i don't like the new united livery. i think it's that blue, it's too bright.

Alex I can't see where this 747-800 is? there is a 737-800 and of course they don't have a top floor,Zoltuger is having you on.Boeing has not built a new 747 for passengers for quite a while now and they only have firm orders for the freighter version. That's the snobby one that has it's nose in the air when it's on the ramp! Excellent pics,I've copied them to my hard drive, please keep them coming Zoltuger. :D

Zoltuger made a typo, instead of typing 737-800, he typed 747-800, ( see the text caption above the Virgin Blue ;) ) I was just taking part in some harmless banter :D .

these photos now available in higher resolution:

incidently, if Boeing is right about the 747-800, its going to be extremely competitive with the A380. 450 pax and a lot more fuel efficient.

747-800 Program milestones:
Launch - November 2005
Final configuration - fourth-quarter 2006
Rollout - third-quarter 2008.
First flight - fourth-quarter 2008
Certification and entry into service - September 2009
