Drury Airdrome

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby ardypilot » Sat Jun 10, 2006 12:14 pm

I just wondered if there are any scenery designers around who would like to add Drury Airdrome, in South Auckland to FS2004.

All that is there is a grass strip, club house and a few hangers- and although I don't know anything about building scenery, I am guessing it would not be too hard?

It is used primarily for gliding, and is recognised on fs2004 the map as "DANGER AREA" from 0 to 2000 feet, just south of NZAR:

There is a page on the CAA website with more information here: http://www.caa.govt.nz/airspace/AirNavR ... ome_co.pdf

Auckland Gliding Club has a good aerial photo on its website which I found:

I just thought it would be nice to have it as a start point in the Select-A-Flight menu, and have a visible runway to actually land and take off on... does anyone else share my views?

The photoreal scenery doesn't do too badly here:

The threshold is at the glider's nose in the screenshot.
It's just a mowed paddock, really. I suppose that's what is meant by "Not Charted".
We were always told we had 3,000ft headroom. I wonder if the CAA knew that?

Hi Charl.

Yes the photoreal scenery represents it pretty well, yet only a higher level.

Coming into land is not as good as real life, and you also cannont select to fly from the strip like other airports in the region.

What I thought would be good would be to add a grass runway strip in the right location and one or two hangers. I have no idea how to do it though ;)

If you screw up your eyes, and imagine ...
I want to start a counter-movement, which will cause all sceneries created with EZ, RWY12, or, especially, LAGO FSE, to spontaneously combust. These represent a giant step backward in the FS world.
If desperate one could drop an AFCAD2 on Drury, though. Have a go, it's really easy.
