Trying some heli flying

Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

Since the defualt fs10 helicopters were quite nicly modeld id I thought ill give heli flying a good go, i'v really only used a choper to buz around a new addon scenery and about one short flight.

Last few weeks iv done quite alot of flying in the helis, carrier landings, landing on oil rigs, mountain tops! I always thought they were a real challenge to fly but have found they are extremly easy with all the realisum set to max.

Haveing a dip, suprisingly I managed to get this deep many times then just power up and fly out with out fs ever detecting a crash. Sadly I never saw any water driping of the underside after flying out, maby fs11 will add that feature :P

Rocky textures are very nice.

Landed up on this very high mountain, the aircraft shadow looks like its floating here.

Checking out some sunset water testures.

It doesn't seem right flying with such a lack of buttons to press.

I have found helicopters to be quite fun, I would like to try something other than defualt ones thow, I really have no idea about what companys make these funny looking aircraft, I would love some sugestions as too what to download :P

So if your like me and never really tried heli flying cos you think its too hard then give it a go cos its simple:D

Sorry these arn't edited, I havnt yet got aroudn to installing photoshop after my windows reinstall.

James

P.S,firefox keeps underlineing all my words as if to tell me I have spelt them incorectly, I just can't seem to find the the actul spell corecter thingy like in word prosesors, I find it very rude indeed to tell me Im spelling it wrong yet not tell me how to spel it right haha

Good stuff mate. If you want a challenge and dont mind spending a little money, Dodosims Bell 206 is excellent and also the Cera Bell 412. For freeware, the Nemeth MD 500s are quite good, there are some NZ repaints floating around aswell. Nemeth brothers do a reasonable AS350 that has some NZ repaints aswell. Hope this helps. :P

Excellent Jimmy,

The Rotorheads are slowly inflicting our will on the world and are quietly taking over. Viva the revolution. :P

Before you know it you'll be joining Natas, Squirrel, Charl and me plus others as a full convert.

If you want some excellent Helo's with more buttons, head over to Hovercontrol.com and get Jordan Moores 412. I'm sure it's been updated for FSX. I must learn what all those button things are for. Especially radio nav.

As Choppernut pointed out the MD500e is excellent (my machine of choice with the NZFF repaint) and the AS350 (commonly known as the Squirrel) are freeware. Not sure these are done for FSX yet though.

As with anything practice makes perfect, which is especially true with helos.

Thanks guys

Yeah, that is with the water slider maxed :P Althogh at low alts it is very pixelated and looks horrible..

Is that FSX default scenery?

Sure is, I think it looks prety, okay maby a little brown but I don't think ill installed the 75m mesh as it might not go well fps wise, well at least fsx has a terrain mesh resolution slider, although I set it to a setting then go back in to display settings and its gone back to something very detailed.

Go Jimmy!
The Dodosim Bell is also freeware by Owen Hewitt.
Get it, together with all the HUD and panel and sound options available on the download sites.
Plenty of repaints too
Also a TV turret version.
Great flying machine.

Don't be tempted by the dark side, Jimmy. Fixed wing is the one and only choice for flight sim. I'm convinced the Rotor fans are associated with the Rand Corporation, in conjunction with the saucer people, under the supervision of the reverse vampires...

No Bandit, no!
Don't antagonise the uninitiated!
Inside every fixed-wing wannabe, is a pure rotary-winged pilot, just waiting to be freed... :ph43r:

Love the postcard Bandit! them stick-wing peelows just don't know what flying is, do they?

And then there's all that anti-rotorcraft propaganda like:

Helicopters can't fly, the're just so ugly, the earth repels them, or:

Helicopters can't fly, they simply beat the air into submission.

Well, to all the pooh poohers I say that when a helicopter takes off, the whole universe revolves around it in awe and respect. The pilot says "Let me be at point B" and the universe humbly shifts...

The only negative thing about helicopters is that there aren't enough with Pratt and Whitney type donkeys - that would be heaven.

Dont forget that fixed wing aircraft run out of puff at high altitudes aswell Zöltuger. At least in a chopper if you find yourself getting into a tight spot, you just turn around and go back the way. Try doing that in your flash C206!!! But seriously, both have their merits. I have to say though, helicopter pilots have to be able to think and make decisions quicker. I fly fixed wing but I really want to fly helicopters.

Ha Ha very good Zöltuger. Good to see we all have a sense of humour and don't take all this too seriously.

Another quote I've seen went something like - Flying is like throwing an aircraft at the ground and missing.

Good on ya for giving them a go Jimmy. As soon as I get some time I'd like to try flying the heavy steel. The 737 appeals.
