Has anyone got any more photos of this?

I only have the one side view. What's on the wing uppers and undersides?

Can't help you with that one sorry, but what you've got already is looking mighty fine.

Hi Chris

I have plenty of photos, but unfortunately my scanner won't work for me today

The top and undersides of all mainplanes and the tailplane is just the gold, but with a fine edge of the brown - similar to the fin/rudder. The brown edge is similar to the reddish edge in your screenshot, but quite a bit thinner.

Not sure what the pic you have shows for the fin/rudder, but it wore "Whittakers Wings over Wairarapa" titles on both sides up to and during the airshow. At some later stage it was removed, but the fuselage titling stayed.

Hope this is some help. I'll post some pics for you if I can get the scanner working. In the meantime, feel free to ask if you need any further info.

Not too good news folks. That effort was with just the one texture, I hadn't looked at the file structure and other issues on the JF Tiger. Here's what I wrote in my other forum about this plane:

Why I am not happy with...

...the Just Flight Tiger Moth.

Oh, it is a great little plane, and the default paints are good.

BUT: (and look at the attached screenies)

1. Paint kit is lacking in detail for the price of the model
2. The FSX version is merely a "ported" FS9 one - no use of FSX technology
3. Far too many different skins and hardly anything to tell you what goes where. Example: there are two diferent skins for some bits, such as the tailplane. Depends on the model I guess.
4. Different skin parts have different scales - making pinstripes line up is not a pleasure
5. No detail layers in the PSDs - all you get are solid coloured textures.
6. There is no sensible structure to the skin textures in a texture older. It looks like JF simply left the Aeroplane Heaven textures where they were (to keep some items from the aircraft mapped to AH textures) and simply re-mapped other bits of the model to JF textures.

I could go on. Sadly, this is the last you will probably see of my work on the Tiger unless JF change things.

I am posting here for pure interest if anyone is concerned, but I will be getting in touch with JF. Considering the Digital Aviation Dornier is half the price, the quality of the JF paintkit is abysmal. More like a poor freeware kit. Even Warwick Carter's paintkit is better and well structured.

Sorry to any JF fans who were expecting more from me, but I am not happy with the quality of this kit.

Sorry to disappoint some folk, but that paintkit is not worth following for now. Hopefully JF may change it. We shall see.

Sorry to hear that Chris - for the price they're asking you'd expect a lot more.

In case you do want to take the Whittakers repaint any further, I have found this pic I took with the digital camera - might be helpful?

On balance the JF model is a disappointment.
For the price you expect the "freeware level" rough edges to be completely ironed out and that includes the paintkit.
Perhaps our expectation was a little high, because it is a fine model.
But the definitive Moth is yet to come...

And despite Jenks' reservations, I love the Warwick Carter model, especially if you splice in a decent soundtrack.
Can't wait for the next rendition, Chris.

...if only Mr Carter would fix the poor old Tiger's nose... must have been in a fight as it still looks quite swollen and mis-shapen :D

About the sound

weeeelll, you could try splicing the sound from another Tiger in by way of "Aliasing", but that would be a breach of copyright to make public. I wonder if it would work?

Never tried, but I always have my ideas before dawn... before I even finish my first cuppa.

I'm sure Mike Hambly wouldn't mind you aliasing his soundpack, as long as it's in your own home ;)
I have John Woodside's FS2002 Moth collection, and lifted the entire sound folder over to the Kiwi Tiger.
It growls a treat.

I put the Waco sound folder into the Tiggie. Now she sounds just perfect (at least for me in my own computer). Nobody has seen me writing this, okidok!

Naaaahhh surely that don't sound right? Nice maybe, but right?

Wow neat stuff, I had no idea there was a Whittakers plane in real life- I thought it was just a bit of fictional fun Cbris!

I may just work on this paint for the Warwick Carter freeware Moth...

God yes! Do it please!!! :P :P :P

Man, this JustFlight Tiger is scary!!! As is the folder structure.

32 model, 24 panel, 18 texture folders, 8 different aircraft with 4 different types for each plane (Different pilot configurations), six different folders. So if I do a paint, the user will have to create at least four new aircraft entries in two different type folders (three entries in one, one in another) just for one aircraft paint.

The next problem arises when you look at the paintkit. There's eight files in use - BUT what they don't tell you is that some models do not use the textures in the paintkit. There's different (civilian) nose cowling and tailplanes. And another problem... a couple of the models have mistakes in them and the master textures (provided with the plane) are named differently. There's an underscore missing on one left wing upper texture name.

user posted image

Look closely and you'll spot it. I was confused at first, when I made a grid texture and created and couldn't see the wing texture in the FS9 preview window. I haven't looked at the FSX one yet.

The bad thing about the differing textures for nose and tail is also that they are a different size to the ones in the paintkit, so you can't just rename, you need to cut, paste and resize.

Stressed!
