RNZAF P3 Orion on patrol

Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

So despite downloading the rnzaf Orion, I think the other freeware one is a little better.
Last night I flew on IVAO a patrol flight from Queenstown to Wellington (decided that route as James was on WN_APP)

Here's where my flight took me:

I took a slightly indirect route, but the results were the same... some wondeful views of my side of the South Island.

Here we go! Airborne out of Queenstown.

I flew 'military' VFR given the fact I was going to be doing some low level patroling of the Pacific Ocean enroute to Wellington.

Before long I was over the ocean, with New Zealand well to the left of us in the distant haze (quite the Albatross!!) :P

Finally arriving at Banks Peninsula. My home is on the western side of this land formation, but it was fun to see the eastern side (for the first time maybe)

Up close look at the entrance to Akaroa Harbour.

Banks Peninsula is of volcanic origin like the Hawaiian Islands. They are visually similar geographically to the Peninsula (which is made by three volcanic cones)

Looking back, the Pensinula starts to drift behind as we head north towards the Kaikoura NDB. Passing over the busy shipping lane into Christchurch, we can practice our skills locating ships in the dark.

What a beauty (no, not the sunset) :P

The northern Kaikoura ranges. We must be getting close to Cape Cambell NDB, not long to go (back up to 7500ft at this time)

About to pass over Cape Campbell James (Wellington Approach atc) contacted me so I put the camera away. Thanks for your ATC James!
It was a brilliant flight, one that really makes you enjoy every minute of it. Thanks for riding along.
(yes pictures have had some subtle editing lol)(and all from FS9!!!) :D

Nice AL, yes I do agree with you, that other freeware P-3K Orion is a little better. I found the RNZAF Orion to be a little heavy on takeoff and just felt like it was unstable.

The C-130 however I believe they've done a splendid job, I have never flown the C-130 because there simply hasn't been a good freeware model to fly, but I'm quite fond of the old bird

 Nice pics there Alister!

I found it a bit 'floaty' on landing but apart from that love the whistle of the engines :)

Thanks everyone :) I'm glad you enjoyed them!
I'm sorry you can't see them James. Can you normally see screenshots in the forum no problem? I've got these shots hosted in NZ. I can upload them tomorrow to photobucket if you still can't see them by then.

ya think so, the installer installed the NZCH (Johns one I think) witch is very nice and photreal really just makes so much more realistic, Its great for flying visual approachs! You can actuly follow the landmarks on the chart.

I may go uninstall the photoreal then to see if it incresses my fps but I get 4fps when t/o or landing in NZCH yet I also get the same 4fps when I landed at YSSY (yes its actuly possible to land a 763 with such bad perforamce) Id uninstall it but id have to d/l the NZCH seperatly and thats like 40mb  maby this weekend......

nice shots

I haven,t tried out the P3 in the flightsim yet but I did once get 10mins in the left seat while out on a flight as part of a squadron visit while I was doing my wings course back in '82 - very stable and nice to fly, much better than bouncing around in the CT4b!

Sorry for the slow reply, clicking "show new posts" lately didn't show me your replies.

I try to avoid using photo real areas in my sim. As I fly medium haul mostly, I mostly just don't like the patchy nature of flying in or out of them. I've worked hard to make my 'default' landclass look real, so I don't really need photo real textures.
I did have the Chch VFR scenery installed. But (I think) it really is that, VFR scenery, for low level VFR flying. I flew in from Auckland in the 733 and was met by nothing but a big blurred mess. It settled down and loaded by the time I got to 500ft, but by then I didn't have time to enjoy the view anyway. So, it got uninstalled.
