Ahead of the changing weather which was spilling over the Alps from the West Coast, the C206 of Wanaka Flightseeing crosses Hawea flat near Wanaka. Behind the aircraft is Lake Hawea. Makes me think that Orbx will have to work very hard to beat this standard of scenery:-

Smooth landings.

Happy , I have already decided this , photo real blends into the VLC so well in this Central Otago region and with everything maxed the frames rocket through the roof , i do get this in some areas in Orbx , but that is many hours flying flat same terrain gets tedious .. and well boring .. here in the photo with VLC , so accurate you cant fault it but when the photo runs out the blend is hard to define , you will really enjoy this part off it .

Gorgeous shots, and of course, it is impossible to find fault with the Orbx products. thumbup1.gif

I'm glad he did!! Because now it means there is something for my version of MSFS!! biggrin.gif (Orbx makes FS9 a little envious at times)

I see quite a few things there that I really want.

Now I need a "getting the wallet out" smiley biggrin.gif, but this one will do.. santa_cool.gif

Yes, the scenery is definitely NOT Orbx but RealNZ Southern Lakes. When you look at the quality of the scenery and the way that it captures the dry, hot summer look of Otago, then there is not a lot that Orbx will be able to do in order to improve on it. I just kept thinking when I was flying around that WHEN the Orbx South Island comes out, that they cannot do this area much better than this scenery already is. And RealNZ scenery has been out a fair time now.

If anybody has not got RealNZ installed then go ahead and order it. The Southern Lakes and Marlbourough regions are fantastic. Frame-rate friendly and great scenery, I love it. I should add that I do not have shares in RealNZ!!!!

Smooth landings.

It's only let down is that the Wanaka scenery is only one season (as its a photo), and its not very high resolution (blurry up close). ORBX will be better in that respect, but whether they capture the golden brown of summer.... well if they don't it'll be due to a limitation in FSX more than anything. Only so many default ground textures can be loaded.

I have all the Orbx but two products and tested many areas , Sydney , Mel , Perth , Bris with everything maxed are frame hog s , the land class is a major texture change , this cause's silly issues , you have switch on switch off as you move further into the different regions . It is simply a landclass which has been tweaked , the airports and detail are equal in detail to whats about to be released .

In Wanaka , it really dose not change that much , very similar to the Mac Kenzie country region were a lot of tussock grass and being chilled and wind blown , go to another region , Taranaki , it always appears to be green , the best source is to talk ask the pilots how they see it in different seasons .. now Canterbury is one that has possibly the biggest change , this area is where it really changes , dries to very wet , so the change , this is well done with the VLC .

Best way to look , hire a plane , go for a fly and look , for any one who lives in Christchurch , take a look at the port hills ' Bank Peninsular ' as the light affects the colour change in different weather types and seasons .

Hi Ian, you stated the airports and detail are equal in detail to whats about to be released. I was under the impression that the default airports in nz were remaining standard, or has this changed now?

Equal in detail other than been re-modeled , you have too spend a little to see result , in saying that their are many scenerys incoming .
