yeah, card or usb headset.... but for me its more like 'free' spare card vs. $$$ for usb headset... so thats a fairly easy choice to make...
the only issue was that for some reason the card was not being initialised by the BIOS properly (ie. not in the big list of devices during POST)... which meant I couldnt install the SB Liveware drivers (no SB card detected, installer will close type errors)... I guess that's what happens when you put in a card that is like 5 years old into a modern machine
In the end, I had to change the IRQ settings in the BIOS settings for PCI1, PCI2 and PCI3 from 'Auto' to a specific number for the card to initialise.
I ran out of time to experiment (I must remember to try doing this sort of thing before 11pm), so I will need to fiddle some more ie. I'm pretty sure I only need to set PCI1 to a specific IRQ...
But I managed to jump into FSX and join a multiplayer game and could hear a bunch of american's doing radio checks in my headphones...
And it will also work with FS9 as well... as FS9 will go through the speakers... and I can configure TeamSpeak to be via the headset
