Cheers all for voting for my entry, hope it serves us well as a good banner biggrin.gif

As far as what Adamski was talking about in his first post, I understand where he is coming from. But in this paticular case, the photo was taken with a camera worth approx $300-$400, from the ground at the Ohakea Open Day Air Display (which from memory was free entry, or very cheap if there was a fee). So if you think about it, its actually a lot cheaper than the PCs required to run FSX etc.

Personally I don't have FSX or FS2004 currently installed on my PC, as I prefer IL2. This usually disqualifies me from entering these screen shot competitions, so I thought it was really cool to have a chance to enter. And before anyone says 'he won an msfs prize, yet doesn't use it', my Dad has FSX on his computer, and its going to him. I think he'll really like it.

You guys are MAINLY a Flight Sim community, but the real world aspect of the community is also quite booming, and I feel that this months screen shot competition was to honor this. There were lots of great entries (I should not have won! Some were AWESOME), which shows that there is interest in having competitions for these real world shots.

So I really would like to see more real-world shot competitions, perhaps twice a year is enough. It maybe is unfair to you pure simmers, but if you think about it, you really do have the rest of the year to enter.

Also one comment I'd like to make; I'd really like to see other sims allowed to enter (you might not officially be stopping them, I'd have to check the rules). For example, IL2 doesn't have a New Zealand scenery, but we can make New Zealand skins for the aircraft, and recreate the spirit of New Zealand warbirds flying in New Zealand. I think this would bring about a few more entries.

Just a thought however.

Again thanks to all who voted for my shot, I hope it does us proud up there. Now to set Dad up in his new Carenado Aircraft... laugh.gif

Even though I didn't enter, I did enjoy having the photo competition. It made a nice change. But, I definitely don't think it should be a regular thing (unless it were separate).

I like the forum how it is now. A nice way - mostly flight sim, with some other stuff mixed in.

I must also thank the admins, mods and members for making NZFF the great community it is.

I disagree with what your saying. I do agree with elements, but having a good camera etc isnt the whole box and dice.

What about in the screenshot comp? How many people here, could honestly say, that they would vote for a picture that was taken on a computer, with no AA, jagged lines etc?

Its the exact same as saying somebody with a good camera can get a better picture. I dont think its unfair, its just the way it is. Dont like it, dont enter.

Although, on the other point mentioned, as a moderator of the Aviation Photography Forum, I would welcome a competition. I would really appreciate Andrew's input on this matter.

i love the forums, i too get a little annoyed by the lack of intrest in some of the fs related topics, but then i have been guilty myself of not commenting on them due to time not really my thing or what ever. but then i do like the real world side of the forums as well, having been on the airside i find it intresting. i also like some of the topics in the off topic sub forum as well.

i find there is a good ballance of flight sim, non flight sim and off topic posts. to the moderators keep up the good work, it is impossable to satisfy everyone but you do a pretty good job.

As far as the compitetions, i like the odd difference to the comps, not that i could enter the last one but i did enjoy the pics, but then i do enjoy seeing what people come up with in the screenshot competitions, i try to enter when i can, even if i can't meet the quality that some guys come up with.

my two cents!!
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.

Always good to see discussion on these sort of things- and indeed, I had expected a half 'for', half 'against' sort of result, and I'm glad members opinions have been voiced.

We did in fact run a community poll a few weeks ago now, to gauge whether addition of more 'real world' aviating content into the forum would be acceptable, seeing as more and more trainee and commercial pilots are joining up here, and due to the fact that the simulation and real world aviation go hand in hand-I could only see benefits from merging the two branches together.

From the results we received in the poll, I decided to go ahead trail photography competition, just for a change (variety being the spice of life and all that...), however, from the feedback in this thread, I think we'll limit it to just once or twice per year during airshow season, to keep the majority of the punters happy! The main reason for choosing it this month was because after three years, I'm struggling to come up with new simulation based themes, so if you have any novel suggestions- please let me know!

Anyhow, the May comp is up now, and things are back to normal for the time being. Thanks to everyone who entered and voted in April, and congratulations to Ace with your brilliant Harvard photograph!
