Cheers,

The short answer Adrian, is that in one shape or another it will probably be there for a long time. The immediate problem is to remove the oil from it and this is well
underway, probably only a couple of hundred tons left and the weather is favourable.
Step two will be to remove the containers from it and I can see this being a major job.
After that will come the problem of removing the hulk. The front section will probably stay where it us as it seems to be firmly wedged. The rear portion will either
break off in bad weather or will be hacked off and hopefully floated somewhere else for breaking up. It is to be hoped that the salvors will gradually cut what remains
on the reef of in manageable bits. In short, a major job.Last edited by Bazza on Mon Nov 07, 2011 10:51 am, edited 1 time in total.

Thanks for the info Bazza. I was wondering how the clean up operation was going as the media here are no longer covering the story. What a shame to see such a beautiful part of the country suffer in this way.
On a more positive note, I've just taken my NAC Rapide up for a spin over Whenuapai and Rena... great work Kahu, well done!
