Yes, but primarily if it's clock speed is faster than the dual and it's Cache is bigger. Dual cores are pretty good, and I'm not certain that FSX really make much use of mutli-cores per se. I suppose an extra advantage of a Quad is that you can assign FSX is core 4, well out of the way of the "traffic area" of the 1st 2 cores (which tend to take most of the load). But it you're current dual is a grunter, you might have to spend a bit of dosh (and poss a new motherboard depending on age of current Dual) for a Quad - do some research 1st and see how much you're going to have to pay to go Quad vs poss benefit...

The mobo is only a couple of months old. It replaced the original mobo that would crash due to overheating problems. The new mobo is Asus P5QPL-AM

Microsoft stated that FSX SP2 will use up to 256 cores. So it does make a difference but like Island boy suggested, clock speed is more important. A moderately clocked dual core will prob still be quicker than the equivalent stock speed quad.

I am going to re-install FSX and acceleration. I don't have any addons so I'm running FSX default. With sliders set to about half, no water ,no light bloom, cockpit detail low clouds off, antialiasing ticked in the sim, screen res set to 1600x1200-32 traffic set to about 20%, my flight starts of at about 20fps then slow to about 5fps and goes up to may be between 12-20 and that's the default free flight with the microlight.
