B1900D Wellington to Nelson - slideshow w audio

Took a heap of screenies and recorded snippets of the audio (using Audacity) from a flight I did tonite between NZWN and NZNS, then sticthed them all together w Windows Movie Maker. Audio starts from about the 3rd slide so dont give up on it too early ;) You'll notice the approach into Nelson is a bit skewed which was due to a mean cross-wind (thanx to real-time weather lookups).

Big ups to Ian Warren for the scenery distros, and all the other contributors to those, cheers all :-)

Cool slideshow there, havn't seen any screenies of the original NZWN freeware scenery for quite a while!

BTW, where you flying an ILS appoach into Nelson? I didn't know the airport was equipt with the system.

Cool idea - reminds me of some videos I have tried taking in FSX...
The other noteworthy thing is the ATC droning on - I ticked a box in EditVoicePack some time ago, which makes this run at double speed, and doesn't speak the pilot's bit.
This allows AI planes to get out of an airport before timing out and vanishing.
Also generates less go-arounds because less time is spent generating "Alpha Sierra Sierra, turn next taxiway"
You soon get used to the Donald Duck voices too.

Unfortunately there's no way my PC can handle capturing video AND playing FS9 at the same time, so this was kinda a comprimise

Err... no... I wouldnt know an ILS approach if I tripped over one. :)

I just flew NZWN-TR-TSM-NZNS and the in-game ATC conveniently gave me a RWY 20 approach into Nelson.
I should've listened more closely to the ATIS recording coz I didnt actually realise I was flyin so sideways till
the runway came into sight thru the clouds and I had to start pointin the nose of the thing in the right direction.

Every other time I've gone WN-NS I seem to have to swing around and land on RWY 2, I guess its a prevailing
wind thing at the site of the airfield, or is it just a random game-engine selection thing do you reckon?

Yea I think the landing runway is based on the weather, Like usally when landing at Auckland I will get a 5R approch but in bad weather/wind direction I will get a 23L approch.

BTW those pics were neat, looks like a flight I will have to do sometime when I get the D

The beeping noise recorded in your soundtrack is because you have tuned your NAV1 radio into an ILS frequency.

23L is generally more active than 5L, say 8/10 days, I think mainly because of the winds blowing in from the Manukau Harbor towards the airport.

Yea thats correct, but in FS 8/10 ATC will give me 5R. Actuly I prefer the 5R approch, come in from the south fly a right base and in over the water ;)

Depends, it could also beep if he had it tuned to a VOR or other navigational (radio) aid. It could be an ILS if he was tuned into an ILS frequency (but unless you can identify the morse code used there...), I'd say it was the code of a VOR or similar. ;)

As Alex suggested, I guess it was the VOR freq, I'd set NAV1 to the Nelson VOR manually @ 'TSM' after turning off the radial I'd been following from 'TR'

Yep :P the morse ID in the slideshow matches NS VOR's morse identifier, which is -. ... as shown on the Nelson VORSEC Chart (NZAIP - NZNS AD2 - 32.1)
