FSX Cheap this weekend at DSE

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Chairman » Thu Mar 13, 2008 1:30 am

If anyone else like me has been waiting for the price of FSX to drop some more before finding out whether we can run it, Dick Smiths have a voucher hidden on their website that is good for 20% off all Microsoft software valid from today through until Sunday 16 March. I suppose you might call it an easter egg ;)

The voucher is located at http://www.dse.co.nz/pages/dsefriendsfam.html. You must take a printed copy with you to the store. It should bring the price of FSX down to about $72.

Cheers
Gary

Dickie smith could afford to put the price down , look at some of the ridiculous pricing they have , Ram , a good example ! 3 times the cost ,compared to DragonPC's

Remember Kids- If you have ANY intention of making your own scenery or aircraft, get the DELUXE version...

In fact, scrap the conditional- Just get the Deluxe version anyway

Dont be too harsh... You have to remember that:

DragonPC is like a couple of guys... working out of spare rooms in their flats... overheads = $
DSE has lots of staff, flashy stores, in expensive to rent locations... overheads = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Remember that Dickie Smith is owned by Woolworths - and they reported a billion $ profit - didn't get that just selling eggs.

Does AccelerationX actually make it faster, or is it just extra planes and missions ?

Cheers

Yes and no- Acceleration also includes Service Pack 2 for FSX which should make the sim faster....however this Service pack is also avaliable for free download anyway.

For ya 40 bucks , best to just to get your Acelerator on CD/disk , rather the MUCKIN , its ok if ya have the time to sort all the addons out , but then to delete all and replace , The one install is my recommend , hell if all go's to pooh again , only a 1 step addon , rather Base/SP1/SP2?/SP2 ready/SP+ to add to SP1 which we forgot to tell you before adding SP2 pre 01/15/08  then more !

Dose- Does AccelerationX actually make it faster, ... I have conflict here , running REALNZ ... B-) BRILLIANT .. latest purchase , CAPSIM C130 no prob , ....

Recommend buying AcellerationX just makes it easy to add to your fun :)

Now I'm officially confused - The MS website only lists one service pack which FSX waved in my face the second time I ran it. If there is another service pack to go on wouldn't FSX also be waving that in my face ? Still, for $40 I might as well grab it ...

Cheers

I've always been a bit wary of DSE prices, considering they have 200+ stores, they should be the cheapest of all the retail stores, but the fact that the one-off locals can beat them must mean huge profits for DSE. Still, I guess that most of their customers prefer the convenience.

My understanding is that you need to install SP1 before SP2. Both are available from the FSInsider site. FSInsider says this:
IMPORTANT: If you have already installed Flight Simulator X: Acceleration expansion pack, do not install Service Pack 2.
IMPORTANT: You must install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2.

...which seems pretty clear.
