NZ Airfields long shot?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Sonnyj » Wed Jan 01, 2014 10:57 am

Hi, Yeah I know I could do it! BUT...has anybody made a list of NZ airfields arranged in a sequential order to fly from , say South to North or visa versa??

Minimum flight miles (save on fuel) LOL.

Thought I'd better see the town before I see the country. I was going to rush off and do an OZ circuit.

Cheers Sonny

Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR! biggrin.gif

I'll give a gazillion bucks to who ever comes up with that. It would be a variation of the travelling salesman problem. wacko.gif

A classic travelling salesman problem indeed, something that GIS can accomplish moderately easily. I might look into this when I'm back in NZ.

Yep I'm keen too Sonny, nice work
We could use it as a route for a kind of air race?

Now that is not a bad idea ! ... that would be fun ... The NZFF air-race to log each field in , or for some off us go to the extreme and paint the point on the side off your aircraft .. course to further prove the flight a copy off the log .. some legs could become a MP , but if not .. just set your own time and date and follow's Sonny's list on your own ! cool.gif

Just checked your latest list .. suits me to a Tee .. I'm going in my Private "Ians Underground Airline Services" IUAS AN-2 winkyy.gif .. I d better get that installed and pull the atlas out winkyy.gif

MMMM.....interesting

Methinks that route could be the basis of a massive OZX Flying Club
multiplayer, spread over say 6-8 weeks.

We done one a few years ago....awesome fun !!!

Here is a report on that little exercise.

I like Sonnyj's idea, so having little to do,I thought I would fire up ADE, and build one of the several airports in his list which do not appear in my FSX. No prob, been there before, but ages ago.
I get the pdf from NZ AIP, have a quick squizz at Googlearth and proceed.
So I say, yes I want to make an airport, and it will be here.
No prob, I have a marker for my new airport.
Now I ask for a runway, and click-drag-click, it is there - but when I look at the properties it says it is a taxi link, even though I clicked the button for a runway link GRRARRRGH!
Please note, in this instance I had actually read the instructions.

Does anyone know of a simple, step by step set of instructions, to help people do things, as opposed to a guide which seems mainly set up to show what a great software it is?

Well, I can always plead temporary insanity, but I finished up making something like NZRW, using an ancient NZ AIP chart, and a look at Google Earth to see what the real thing was like.
The next one in Sonnyj's list, that wasn't in my FSX, was NZLD Limestone Downs; but I find that it was removed from the AIP list, and is now essentially a private Ag strip.
I think a rally-type event, to land at all the ones in the list is a great idea, but maybe if they are no longer in the NZ AIP, they should be dropped?
Just a thought...

All pretty relaxed here, Limestone downs and a couple of others could be flown over and an operational situation report recorded somehow. Maybe count the sheep while passing..LOL. Can't land as livestock would not disapate.

Cheers
