I've been keeping an eye on them, it's very promising.

Ian I have paid $15 USD which enables some other in sim features such as planes and scenery. See below for the link to the (legal) torrent that will download the entire earth so that the sim does not download it in game. This I think is a little like how tile proxy works but quite different in many ways.

If you are interested in the demo them you can also download this outerra earth torrent (completely legal) torrent that is 12GB which covers all the earth. This means you don't have to wait ingame while the scenry is downlaoded as you go. I suppose the way it works currently is not too disimilar to tile proxy but definately different in many ways.

I believe the full (paid) alpha version will allow this data to be used and of course has a few features that are enabled also. The full dataset below may work in the demo version, not sure, but you won't have the aircraft and land vehicles in the demo.

Once I have downloaded I will share screenshots/video once able. I am quite busy Beta Testing REX Essentials at the moment so I'll try to get some time to do this.

Get the demo here:

http://outerraworld.com/appdata/Anteworld/...982.exe.torrent (torrent, please use this if you can) (you will need utorrent or similar program)

http://goo.gl/dmIUh (direct download, Europe)

http://outerraworld.com/appdata/Anteworld/...0.7.11.2982.exe (direct download, USA)

AND get the entire earth dataset here (you will need utorrent or similar program):

http://outerraworld....d/earth.torrent

I'm downloading now...

Here is a video I made of New Zealand with the engine. Note that no Waterclass or landclass i.e rivers, roads, specific vegetation exist in this Alpha version just the Earth dataset. But it is extremely realistic in terms of environmental variables. I will post more soon.

It has the ability to accept vector landclasses such as rivers, roads, etc... and Procedural Cities, vegetations etc.. without the need to build all this manually in the Engine.

With those coastlines , adding paddocks tree lines and all the roads rail , plantation landmarks making towns and city's with all the airfield and airports railways and harbours and the towns that would dang impressive .

Sure would wouldn't it?

I am just uploading a few more videos now that show the following:

All done over the south of the South Island.

- High Altitude flight
- Time of Day; changes to the environment (colour and shading)
- Fog generation (x2 videos)
- Mountains and trees
- Cockpit shadows

EDIT: OK here are some more videos, enjoy:

To also let you know that there is a weather engine pending for this platform as well. God knows what that will surprise us with.

I will edit this post shortly with the links.

Here is a teaser screenshot:

Outerra is a very interesting development, indeed. I have been observing it for some time and bought the paid alpha immediately, and landscape indeed looks great.

However, I am under the impression flight simulation is not their main focus or even a serious focus at all. I've been watching their forum and there are numerous random ideas and suggestions on various types of games and simulations etc. However, based on the forum no one seems to be seriously working on a flight simulator stub (flight models, panels, airport buildings, ATC, all that) - which would be a splendid idea given the present situation in our field.

Regards, Michael

Hi Michael.

I too have scoured the site looking for clues about whether this will make the cut for a flight sim. What i drew from the forum was that it is early days and the engine still needs a lot of polishing before it can be dressed up with any addonware so to speak. I'll keep an eye on the forum. Timmo (who created VLC) had his eye on this too, probably due to the engine's ability to utilise vector and procedural classes.

Cheers

Cameni from Outerra has noted that MODIS landclass will be used for this Engine, see below for his quote:

"Global eco systems will be created and matched with MODIS world land type database (500m resolution, but will be procedurally refined like the elevation data), and then color-matched with Blue Marble colors.
Weather engine should draw from some rough data, which could be either generated or provided by an external service."

See here for a little outline of what this is

Well be interesting to see what develops from this base , guess still be counted a few years for any real use compared to the current FSX .

This looks incredibly promising. Thanks for the heads up. DL the demo now. Will keep an eye on it's development for sure.
