Bloom for FS9 & FSX

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Wow, found this today! It adds bloom to FS9 and FSX (infact any game that's DX9 or lower). Great thing is that it uses the DX9 render path so that its your GPU doing the work and not your CPU. If you have a fairly good GPU this means you should see almost no framerate hit as FS9/X both use mainly CPU power.

1. Download from http://enbdev.com/ (v0.0.7.5 seems to be best for FS9/X - the GTA:SA version)
2. Place the d3d9.dll and enbseries.ini in your main FS9/X folder.
3. Go!
4. Tweak the enbseries.ini to your liking (bloom intensity and colour correction).

Here is a more obvious comparison of the plane in direct sunlight:

Dawn looks fantastic!

These pictures do NOT do it justice - it really looks fab in game.

Was messing with it last night. Seems to be unstable for me in FS9 sad.gif Reading around it looks to be a common problem. However I've heard of no such issues in FSX.

Hmm looks interesting, however the default bloom I have turned off as it's not compatiable with most of my addons, or is it lens flare? Can't remember
Looks really good though mate, long as it dosen't cause problems in FSX then I will get it..

As its a 3rd party "mod" it should work with any aircraft as all it does is take bright colours (like white) and give them bloom.

I've always wanted a good HDR effect in FSX, as the current washed-out look does let the visuals down a lot. I was aware of this, but never tried it before mainly because this type of thing (like default bloom) hits my system hard. But since today I had already broken one habit by installing the Shader Model 3.0 for FSX v1.5 (Performance Edition) by Jesus Altuve, from Avsim today, and had therefore done a quite thorough backup, I decided to give it a go.

I won't mention SM3.0, except that this particular version is well-worth trying if you use ATI and suffer from bad cloud performance. There are a few issues, but it certainly does 'fix' the problems with ATI and clouds.

Enbseries however is a different thing, in that it does lower performance for me (this will vary depending on your system) but it certainly does what I'd hope HDR would do for FSX. Here's a few random shots from testing this today. I like the deeper tones, it seems that the default FSX is afraid to go too dark, but this is a lot more realistic to me.

It'll be highly dependent on your GPU. Those with higher end GPU's should only notice a small drop (if any). It certainly gives the sim world a more realistic look.
