For the technical bits, check out Tim's website.

In beta at the moment. You'll need to ask Tim when and how much, but he's away at the moment.

Hi Rob - any chance you can do a shot of what your 'across the straight' signature pic looks like with VLC? It would be intersting to see how much better VLC blends with your scenery areas...

Cheers, Wayne.

To me and i mite be wrong ,the sig that Robin is showing now on his user is the VLC and across the straight addon blended together ..

i myself have been trying to match some photoreal with VLC from a old horrible faded 2000 photo ,after alot of recoloring it is possible to get the blend close but not flawless.

Yes, Mike is right, the banner image does show Real NZ within VLC. It's a bit small to get a good look, so I've done a quick comparison. Here's the eastern edge of Real NZ Wellington, running straight down the middle of the pic. You can see the difference, but not the blend:)

However there are a few gotchas here.

Photo scenery normally comes with a single season (locked to the time the photo was taken -- of course) but VLC may change the appearance quite a bit at different times of the year. The shot here shows summer, winter, autumn. Some areas are more noticeable than others -- Wellington not so much, further south you will see a real difference in snowy areas!

The source image will also determine the colour to a large extent. Although most images are tweaked a bit, they really start off at the best the professionals could get at the time the image was put together. There is not really a lot anyone can do to improve upon this, except to make it more FS-friendly. (reducing blue light scattering, matching tonal range, sharpening etc.)

The transition impact can be reduced a lot by blending the edges, which I've done in later projects, but not older ones. Wellington is blended, Marlborough isn't, for instance.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. That's lookings really good - especially winter which is looking nice and green (as actually is in winter!). Cheers, Wayne.
