I’ve having hours (days) of fun with FS.
I had it on a shelf for years without ever trying it, and now that I have, I’m hooked.
I got my traffic up, now flying into airports behind spitfires, got ships in the sea, ha ha.
But this is a fun thing to try…
The Soar_Guatemala thermal files meant for gliders is great, you glide from cloud to cloud, and eventually get bored and dive out of the sky.
BUT, this guy has built the thermals right over the runway and all the way to the ground.
Now take a Cessna and try land it in that turbulence, you have to sideslip but it’s not too difficult.
Now take a plane without flaps like a Bulldog Pitts… I can’t get it down.
I come in on a stall, with the engine cut, and a full on crossed crab, and as I’m floating along the runway just above it, its picking up speed, try put that tail ender down, and you leap off the ground like a yoyo.
I have to move away from the runway and land in a field.
In odd places there are some bugs in the terrain, you see a huge hole in the ground, they actually creepy, don’t just fly over it, whip your little Hughes chopper out and fly, hover down the hole, it’s the weirdest feeling, and how you know it’s a bug is even though there are trees at the bottom, you cant land, if you do you get sucked into the ground
Love it, put an engine on a brick, and I’ll fly it...
Tell you something else, Microsoft have messed up the biz model, this is google earth on steroids if they do it right, release the tools for free, give plane, train, car and people SDK’s away, but keep the ad space, so you land at an airport, and there’s a Coke bill board, you walk into a terminal building and there a McDonalds, where you can order a real hamburger, delivered to your real door… goodbye google earth, hell Micro World.
Gates has made the biggest mistake of his life, firstly by making files incompatible across versions to trying sell a SDK, and now by firing the FS team… that was/is the future of Microsoft… this FS is something else if you see it as more than a FS.
Google knows, that’s why they trying to put planes on Google Earth… I knew Gates was just lucky, not so smart after all.
FS is fantastic… put Need for Speed Underground together with it, so I can fly over some other guys having a drag race… and let me land to buy a burger, well…
