Also PMDG have just made an announcement, that they will now be providing product support for P3D v1.4 and 2.0 going back to the 747update.

Forgive me if this has been answered recently (been away from FSX for a while, exploring the delights of the DCS Huey...) but what are the advantages of P3D over FSX?

Must be pretty good from all the excitement around here.

Of course I only plan to use it for educational purposes, not personal entertainment or anything like that, tsk tsk.

Look at the entire picture .. How many pilot students are willing here to put up there hands and say they use Flight Simulation X for Acedemic and educational purposes '

Come to think the amount off times i go into flight schools - museums and spoken to specific teachers that this would be won hell of a tool to use to teach.

So were do you draw the line ... One of my favourite sayings ... "Is all Double Talk" winkyy.gif

Hey Jase,

Gotta admit, the gear is working quite well now that it is had a good run in time. Love the new visuals and performance.

So erm,... new visuals and performance?

"Virtual world with 40 high-detail cities and more than 24,900 airports"

Is that more than FSX? Is there a proper NZAA?

"Accurate topography with regionally and culturally appropriate textures"

I guess some of FSX's textures were a bit culturally inappropriate. Just can't remember which ones at the moment.

"Modifiable real-time weather system, continuous time of day, seasons and a variety of lighting effects"

Continuous time of day...

"Whole earth WGS-84 model"

I always wanted one of those.

Can it utilise multi-core CPUs?

Can it see more than 4GB of RAM?

All the Yap and no detail reference screens yet to any geography reference .. take a few days for it to sink in i guess but looking forward to it ... but really by someone who can notice difference between the current FSX .. PD3- 1.4 was not doing so well for 15 months against that ole FSX program !

There's a lot of info on Avsim, just spend an hour on the P3D forum and you'll get a much better picture of what is does and doesn't do. Basically, it doesn't add any scenery, they've specifically said that they'll leave that up to third party developers.

Yes, it utilises multiple cores. But it is still 32 bit. However it does handle memory better, apparently, mainly by handing off a lot of the work to the GPU.
