No not that one either --This was more an equal to the F4 , the Phantom had the extra punch and this period the Navy were more than happy with the Crusader for the smaller Essex class carrier

Hmmmm, how about that YF-17 that then got modified as the F/A-18?

You thinking of the F-111B maybe?
Amazingly, the US Navy did look at this as a long-range fleet air defense (FAD) fighter.
General Dynamics knew zilch about carrier ops, and so went to Grumman for help.
Grumman said "Sure!".
Discovering the Pig was not much good at anything at all, they quietly developed the Grumman 303, which morphed into the Tomcat and stole the Contract.
This all happened in the atmosphere of distrust and skullduggery, created by Defence Secretary Robert McNamara.

Making a question difficult to Google is the problem - yours was a good one Ian!

Lessee...a NZ focus, then:

Strengths in the use of advanced composite materials that first evolved in New Zealand’s world-leading marine industry are reaching new levels of sophistication in the aviation industry.
What NZ aviation product is the hot news in this field?

Aargh you'd hope a question could live for longer than 33 minutes, wouldn't you??
Thanks for the link, too - wish them well.

Over to you then..."Wingman" is still out of it for one more round, so you can go for a non-Googlable one without fear the info is stored in a Walking Encyclopaedia!

Crickey Naki that will be a doozie... I have had no luck on me research, I have some pretty good resources on the history of air nelson but never come across any mention of a jet. Are you sure they "operated" it...?

Does it have to be a full-stop landing or does a touch and go count? unsure.gif
