i am from flat bush, welcome to all new people, perhaps we should have a get together one day :D

Hi Q300, welcome. I clearly remember being in the 5th form and wanting to be a pilot. I got a part time non paying job out at Hamilton airport for a few months at a place called Aeromotive Overhauls to get some work experience and to just be around the aircraft. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent there and got to fly around the country a bit with the boss in his C210. Alot of visiting pilots would talk to me while things were being done to their aeroplanes and here's what they often said! Get a job and spend every dollar on flying lessons. Stay focussed and don't give up. I'm sorry but you just can't afford to have a girlfriend yet.
Now this was the mid 1980's which was a bad time for aviation anyway. Sadly I didn't follow their advice and was into girls, beer cars etc... too. I do wish I had listened and stayed focused. It's one of my lifes regrets. I have my sim now and make do with that. I like metal and hard rock too. Les Pauls and Marshalls. Good luck with your flying and your music. Make the necessary sacrifices and you may find what you are looking for.
Kind Regards Stephen.

Heelo all,
I'm Jamie a 20 year old student at Canterbury. Currently studying computer science although I started off doing physics, somewhat akin to the tui billboard "It's a 6 year degree". I've been interested in flight sims for a while, finally picked up a copy of FS9. Hoping to get into the making side of this sim eventually, my only means of transport at the moment is a bike however, so realistic airports are a long way off, but any tips/advice to get me started would be appreciated.

Wow, it is a small world! I used to live in England, a town called Bridgwater in Somerset (1/2 an hour down the M5). But I spent many a summer day on the beach at Weston B-)

Welcome to NZFF :)

Hi there, My name is Paul Hill. i am 35, 3 kids and lovely wife. I have just started out on the flight simulator as i have finally managed to save up enough money to buy a good computer. I am from the first computer game generation (bloody zx81) and have flown the most basics of graphics with Amstrads, Amigas and all that.
I am a Bar Tutor in the day and am well aware of the dangers of flying sober, a bit of dutch courage and im off flying the skies. People always told me to not take drugs and stay in school, well i did one of them anyway. I would love to meet some of you guys up in the sky so if there is somewhere you could direct me, that would be awesome. See ya.

G'day all, I'm Steve, 23 and living in the South Waikato. Aviation mad since i was a kid, growing up in Ireland and the UK. Time went by and i wound up living in Tauranga, where i clocked up a couple of hundred hours powered flight and about the same in gliders... Flightsimming since 05, mainly on the servers at WSPilots.com and usually involving warbirds. Glad to see a healthy flightsim community here in NZ and looking forward to my time here smile.gif

Hey There all

Ok so my real name is Chris and i come from way down south, the beautifull tropical Invercargill! "its not all that bad" tongue.gif, where do i start off? well i can vividley remember as a 4-5years old getting a model aeroplane form the olds while flying to Fiji or somewhere, remember the old ANZ gifts trolly that would go around and you could purchase gifts and what not? well any way i was spoiled by getting a B 747, right then i was hooked! the beautifull look and lines of air crafts had me! prob a couple years after that at the age of about 7 the family went all out and purchased the first PC, i cant remeber what the specs were but i do remember it came with a very very early version of MS flight sim, remember the white blocks in the sky (clouds) and starting off from megs field, the only air craft's were cessna, the sailplane, some old biplane and the learjet that looked like it had an orange nose (the tip) any way from that point on i was a totall addict!!! ever since then i have progressed up from FS8,FS2000,FS2002,FS09, not ready to go to FSX yet, still not ready to give up my beloved copy, i have it to almost perfection! So i'm not really much of a forum person but it seems that im not the only person in this country that shares this crazy (almost fetish like) passion biggrin.gif, So im at the ripe age of 22, recently engaged and a career change, i left school to persue Car painting because i wasnt really sure what life had for me so i spent a good 3 years training and painting and destroying my lungs....cough...cough LoL, Not untill long ago i suddenly had a light switched on in my head and i really had to put my life onto paper, what did i really want out of life? do i enjoy my job? do i want to be doing this when im 50??? Hell NO! any way i weigh'ed up the pros and cons and decided we only get one shot at life and i want to do something i whole heartedly LOVE!!! yup you gussed it, i have always wanted to be a pilot from day one but always believed i had to me a math wizzard to be one, obvisouly not, So now im a full time student (to be come Feb) studying a diploma in aviation&magagement, and im not tbowing down accepting defeat!

So anyway i just love the heavies! my Fav would be the Queen of the sky's the beloved Boeing 747-400 notworthy.gif and 737's and ATR's, yea i guess you could say im more of an IFR/FMC man rather than a VFR guy, dont get me wrong tho i still have a soft spot for doing low&slow in the beach barron, just doing the cessna thing doesnt really appeal to me, not enough to do The complex nature of the heavies really gives me a challenge and keeps me on my toes. Good to know you all and i dont want to sound like a preacher but dont let your dreams become a distant mist, persue them and grab them by the HORNS!!!

Go hard fellow Simmers!

Hi,

My name's Si and I am a flight simulator addict. LOL

31 years old and have just got back into flight simulators after a long break (10 years +). Man, have they changed big time!
I studied my PPL for a couple of months when I was 18, but due to lack of funds I couldn't afford to continue. Flight simulators had to satisfy my passion for flying. I'd like to get back into the real thing some time!

I am a graphic artist by trade and use Apple Mac's for work. I recently bought an HP laptop for personal use and after downloading the FSX demo, decided I had to get the Deluxe version. I can run the sim with ultra high settings although I like to reduce them for landings. It's taken me a couple of months to get the hang of it, but I am now progressing quite nicely "“ I think so anyway.

The only hardware I have so far is a Saitek Evo joystick. I'd love to get a set of rudder pedals.

I am feeling quite comfortable flying routes (Mostly NZAA- NZHN and vice versa) in the 737-800. Took a while to get the hang of landing... was mostly coming in too hard and was struggling with lining up properly. After finding the appropriate approach charts and working out how to use the gps to select approaches and navigate, I am really starting to enjoy the sim a whole lot more.

Last night's flight from NZAA - NZWN went well until I stuffed up my approach and landed slightly off the runway.

I look forward to being part of this community.

Cheers
Finatic

Hi all,

My name is Chris and I live in Lower Hutt. My background is computers and have worked with them since 1962 and have done pretty much anything and anything you can do with computers at some point during that time. These days I am recently retired and spend a lot of time (too much according to my wife) on the computer flight simming and editing and manipulating images to produce "digital art".

I have loved aircraft since I was a kid when as a rugrat I played with the FunHo toy DC3, then later on made balsa flying models of Pipers and Spitfires etc. MY first real flight was NAC DC-3 from NZWN to Gisborne via Napier and return (approx. 1951). I was about 9 - 10years old. It blew me away - I had a window seat - just in front of the wing - looking right out at the engine. I still remember being amazed that those spinning propellors were keeping us up in the air - at least that's how I thought as a 9 yr old - not knowing anything about aerofoils and lift in those days. My most memorable flight was about 1961 when my father shouted me a flight home from Christchurch (I was at engineering school at the time) to Wellington. It was on the NAC Skyliner - and we flew just off the coast all the way at about 1500 - 2000 feet (my guess). It was a beautiful fine day - very little cloud - and the view was spectacular - all the way. You miss so much flying high in Jets. Naturally I still love DC-3's and have all the freeware models as well as the MAAM-SIM DC-3.

I have played with flightsims since the days of the first Atari's and have owned most copies of MSFS since the start - but only really got hooked this last year - first with FS2002, then FS2004, now FSX. I agree with most of the adverse comments about FSX - but am persisting with fine tuning my latest PC to get it working OK under VISTA. It's fine running under XP (most of the time). I use mult-boot systems.

My preferred FS aircraft are the prop models - especially multi-engine models. My favorites are the DC-3 and Beech D18S - but also love the AC680. Like many of my generation I also have a soft spot for the Spitfire and Mustang and have purchased payware models of both.

I don't know if my photoshop and other computer skills could be of help on any community projects - but I am willing to learn how from you experts if you have the time - I certainly have a bit of time to spare some days and nights. Perhaps I could be making the tea and coffee and fetching the biscuits on some scenery or repaint projects?

I also noticed with interest on reading (right) through this "Introduce Yourself" list that many of you are keen photographers. Funny how an interest in aircraft and photography often seem to go together. I also share that interest and have been a keen photographer for 55+ years.

Thank you to all for making the NZ flightsim experience so enjoyable. I look forward to becoming more involved in future.

Cheers
