Flight Sim Shop

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Shamrock55 » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:03 pm

Hi All,

I asked permission some time back to tell you about my Flight Sim Shop, MODs please advise me if this is no longer okay....

www.flightsimshop.co.nz

I've been in NZ for three years now and have had trouble finding much stuff in the way of locally available flight sim gear, so I started my own part time business. So far i've mainly been marketing it towards aeroclubs and flying schools but i'm sure some of you might be interested in what i've got.

Mainly the Saitek hardawre has been the best sellers, and i can get any of the simkits or VRInsights stuff shipped directly as I act as a local distributor. Some cool cockpit and training type devices avalable. I havent put much work into selling the software side of things as there are already so many websites that you can purchase and download from, and i havent got the cash right now to purchase the bulk lot of CDs or DVDs that would make selling boxed products viable (with customs duties and shipping you'd have to sell a LOT of software to make good money). I have got some Just Flight addons up there for download and have about another 30 of their products to add over the coming weeks. So the software addon section is quite basic but as I said its just not really finacially viable to sell DVDs without buying a container load smile.gif

Basically i'd love your feedback and of would be happy to try and source products that you think are hard to come by here. I don't want to make a ton of money out of this, more to act as an easy place for kiwis to buy Flight Sim stuff.

I also through some thoughts of up on my blog at www.flightsim.net.nz, have a read and feel free to contribute.

Cheers

Paul

All new too me ..... looking good thumbup1.gif
Ive often wondered why we (NZ) have never had a branch of (for example) PC Aviator here . But i suppose the difference between $aus and $nzd is so small , so why bother ..... Carry on Dean thumbup1.gif smile.gif

I don't have a physical shop that you can visit i'm afraid smile.gif But plenty of nice coffee shops in Wellington.

I thought long and hard about carrying tons of DVDs etc like PC Aviator but just can't justify the cost of shipping and holding stock compared to only selling hardware which is much easier smile.gif

All I will say is good luck to ya! It's not the easiest market to get into and do well out of, especially at the moment. Very few, if any get rich on flight sims either. Its more about just making enough to keep head above water!

That's it .. and people recent asked why its ... why don't you do payware ... its the market name and brand .... fact is really no money unless group with a large company and then its peanuts .. ... go the reason it is and always gone freeware .. or least the work i do is payed back in the finished product

Yeah there's no way I could make an actual living out of it, but its fun to help people get into flight sims. Especially older clients who flew in their younger days and are amazed to discover how realistic flight sims have become. Its kind of a hobby business really.

I bought a nice gentleman a tiger moth model from Just Flight as he didnt have a credit card and was scared of online shopping, his phone call to thank me after he'd installed it was tear jerking, he said he could almost feel the wind in his face again. So its nice to help those that wouldnt have a clue about simming get into it.

I was was most impressed with the Just Flight/ Aeroplane Heaven Tigger when released , I had the model for a month when first released in the demo mode , the many people who have stopped here who were airline pilots to the Mil .. even grabbing some of the great freewares choke many up .

Looking great but suggest you slow down the "pop-ups" showing the products at the top of the Home Page....? Not enough time
allowed to adsorb the goodies. Good luck, already bookmarked.

I think you can click the captions under each banner to stop it switching. Quite an effective way of doing things.
