Stealing files

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Hey guys, as some of you may know I did some Mexicana repaints a few months back, I uploaded them to avsim. A few days later I recieve an email form the admin at www.fsxaddons.com to ask me to upload my files to his website. I ignored the email not wanting my repaints on that website, and that was that. But a few days later I stumbled across the website again and found one of my repaints there, not only did I state in the readme that to re-upload my repaint you were asked to contact me (which I wasn't) but no credit was given to me. It appears that the "author"/uploader removed all files but the textures and stuck his name on it with no mention of me. I would consider this stealing and am going to contact the admin about this. The uploader has also gone to flightsim.co.nz and uploaded a lot of the files there, but took out readmes, folders and renamed everything, but everything was still under say Jon's name or Tims name.

What do you guys think about this and if I'm overreacting.

btw I haven't contacted them yet, I want to know what you guys think,
Here is a draft of what I am going to send the admin, any ideas on what I could change

I would like to bring you attention to this file. This repaint was done by me and was uploaded to AVSIM by me. A few days ago I came across this website and discovered that my repaint was hosted here and no credit was given to me. I would like to know why this has happened. I believe as the author I have the right to decide where I upload my files. I also asked in the readme that I be contacted before it is reuploaded but I was never contacted.

AVSIM keyword - mex_738.zip
fsxaddons.com - http://www.fsxaddons.com/file/view/321/mex...a-b737-800.aspx

I would like to know why my file has been reuploaded without my permission or any credit given to me.

The point I'm making is my paint has been uploaded and I have had no credit what-so-ever which I consider stealing

You're right. If you stated in your readme not to upload elsewhere without your permission, and they upload it is bad enough. But for them to take out anything that mentioned you, and to replace it with their name is rubbish!

In most of these cases the host has little to do with the upload, other than ensuring it doesn't have viruses, and the description is accurate. Ask for it to be removed for sure.

Other people uploading your file to other sites seems to relatively common though, which can be a bit of a pain.

I guess so, they uploaded my LOTR paint but gave me credit so that doesn't bother me, but to take away my credit...
I could just try and upload them myself to cause trouble rolleyes.gif but then they are on a site I don't particually want them on.
