FS is like my secret shameful fetish noone knows about tongue.gif
Thats the last thing in life that i would think would be shameful fetish ,the learning that anyone gets from fs is amazing and knowleagable in all walks of life ..
and as for the other answer you gave its not like i was pointing the finger at you, if i was youd know about it i was meaning that alot of people post pics and say they have just flown 10,000miles etc if they added and it was all done in 1hour it would take the impact of there storys ...or not ,but i enjoy telling others about my flights thats what it is all about sharing your tales of flights and places youve flown into even the odd screenshot ,so i suppose we all brag to someone about something ..

so it depends on what your realisum is to you
and time you have on your hands to enjoy your flight ,im not againest anyone speeding it up ,thats upto them
im a online flyer so that is all outta tha question ...

pretty intresting stats at the moment ,im pretty surprized really ,but understand more why people do speed it up

I try not to use it. If I'm strapped for time I prefer to save the flight and finish it later, but some aircraft are antsy about being restarted mid flight, and then I will speed up the enroute part of the flight in order to finish it.

I don't fly longhaul (the one exception was the Herc flight from NZCH to NZIR on my B2B tour, and, yes I did accelerate while over the ocean), most of my flights ranging from a few minutes to around 4 hours (ie. about the range of a typical GA single). Consequently there's always something to look at, navigating, or flying to do.

If you're going to leave the sim running and watch TV/walk the dog/sleep etc., you may just as well accelerate IMHO. It's also environmentally friendly to accelerate, since it uses less leccy, and has a smaller carbon footprint.... dry.gif

Also on the networks you aren't supposed to (read: against Rules & Regs) fly accelerated flights - which may have been in part what Alister was saying.

Well Alister, its easy to suggest good ideas in retrospect - but in the 'heat of the post', logical thought seems to fly out the window. tongue.gif

Sorry Alex, I wasn't suggesting fault with your post/ poll, just suggesting a thought that it would have been interesting to compare some results. That is exactly the reason online you aren't supposed to accelerate time, it defeats the realism vatsim and ivao are striving to recreate. smile.gif (which I think was what I was getting at). And those who fly online, particularly in a virtual airline situation, don't like to see themselves "punished" in their own eyes by flying more realistically, only to have offliners, flying in a potentially less realistic environment (eg starting on the runway or in the skies already, clear skies with calm winds, incorrect aircraft or performance) jump ahead of them in the ranks due to accelerating time. It's an age old problem in virtual airlines (to accel or not to accel), one that will only be fixed when Microsoft remove accelerated time laugh.gif

If you're going to leave the sim running and watch TV/walk the dog/sleep etc., you may just as well accelerate IMHO
This is the point though in my opinion and a reason I don't have a huge problem with accelerating time. I've flown plenty of flights, and yet often been sitting on my bed playing xbox or playstation on cruise (my computer is in my bedroom too). That's just how I pass the time, everyone has their own way of doing so. To many outsiders our hobby IS as boring as watching paint dry. I know for sure I didn't have a bad back before I started this hobby, now I've spent too many hours sitting in a computer chair watching the world go by. As such I can't just sit there anymore while the ocean passes beneath, I've made a decision that my health is more important, so I try to keep moving. (by the way of the last 1000 flights I've flown, my average flight time is a mere 1.7 hours - I'm not much of a long hauler either)

I never use it. I prefer to break up (ie save) my flights into managable sessions say 3-4 hrs at a time in the evenings. I know its not much more realistic but you can still say you have flown it real time in the sim if not in real life time. A few months ago I did LOWW - VTBD - YSSY. Just over 18 hrs in the air plane.gif

You haven't experienced Flight Simulator till you've flown NZ!

No problem Alister - I was really just pulling your leg a wee bit there. winkyy.gif

Interesting thoughts regarding the use of Time compression as well, thanks for the input. smile.gif

I don't usually turn it on until over 10000 feet and usually under 10000 I limit it to 2x and 20nm out back to normal

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

I'd love to be able to do 16x acceleration on a RW long haul flight...
