STUTERS! ahhh

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Jimmy » Mon Oct 02, 2006 4:30 pm

Hello

Lately I'v been getting really bad stutters in my sim...

By this I mean every 3-4seconds the sim pauses for a second (or half a second sometimes) sometimes the frames are still up around the normal 17-18 when its stuttering but sometimes its a combination of low fps (7-8) and the stutters at the same time.

I'v tried heaps of things, things like turning the cloud settings to lowest detail turning of autogen turning off avast antivirus, etc.. etc...

Thanks
James

is this only when flying helo ? if so this is because i think the sim was really designed to go forward in smooyh motion not really sideways and around in fast sharp movment and you are rendering in a quick pedel right then left ,,if there is a fix for this id be into it as this happens to me even on a higher end system ,,jump in a plane and all is super smooth no jars etc.. only if im in the extra doing aerobatics ....hardout !! id like a better clearer answer to it too ...

oh and vc is hard on frames but the best view in my opinion

Whoops, sorry Jimmy! I was mean't to send you an article about this before you left for Brisbane. I guess I just forgot.

Anyway- here is how to improve your stutters:

Add TextureMaxLoad to your Flight Sim Cnfg :

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=100
TextureMaxLoad=10

Set your Pan Rate to 600-900 and frame rates need to be locked at 22 to 30 depending on your system and Graphics card.

Do not be confused with TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD= already in your FS Cnfg this is your Global Scenery setting in flightsim

The whole article can be found here: http://vistaoz.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4884&hl=

Hope this helps you mate.

The reason made this s sperate post is that I get really bad stutters sometimes when I have absolutly nothing else running, So should I get the latest driver for my vid card brownbox?

:plane: (I just had to use it, such a kool smile :clap: )

I just came across this blog, which has food for thougt:

Matt

PS Jimmy, that's one heck of a sig!!

Edit: I just came across something that made me LOL. It's from a post on ON AVSim about stutters and blurries / FSX and probably not far from the truth as no one 'ideal' fs cfg setting seems to work for everyone:

If I were a programmer on the FSX team tell ya what I would do.
Add a couple mystery,do nothing lines in the .cfg file.
Like, VISIONBLUR=10
JAGGIE=5_100
STUTTERRANGE=2435.77887
Then sit back for the next 4 years and watch people try to figure em out and swear the difference changing each makes.
Wait a minute, Think thats already been done in the fs9.cfg

:clap:

Stutters are just a fact of life even in the highest end systems.This is what I did in the end.- Become familiar with G.A planes and Helo's that stick to moderate airspeeds! Planes like the PMDG 737 are heavy on the CPU.Even this will not Solve the problem but it won't seem so bad.
Still all the advice given in this thread is very good and some will help on some systems.
Microsoft will have us believe the answer will be FSX and maybe one of those $12,000 computers! :clap:

Of course they will and thats why they make billions of bucks to get us to replace our PCs every 12 months and use another barrel of oil producing another PC that will just be put in a landfill to contaminate the ground for the next million years.

HAHAHAHAHAHA thats bery bery funny.

I was practiceing holding over the ch vor today in clear skies in a tomahawk and had 10fps but when i put water detail all the way to the left I got 20fps :clap: sadly thow i still had a stutter every 4 seconds <_< Even with nothing running and in full screen.

Could this be my graphcs driver or are there saome settings I can change on my card to fix this. Were can i get my hands on a older driver?

Thanks
James

P.S: whys my avator changed back to my crapy old one :(
Oh and sorry about the BIG sig lol Ill change it tongight sometime

I have found that MOST of the time it is 3dclouds that couse my stutters.
I'm hopeing this will resolve it self when i get a older driver for my graphics card :)

Thanks for all the tips once again everyone :thumbup:
