Well your loss matel Well I would not worry about that. I have indicated many times in past posts on NZAA forums that i do plan to move to MS2024 in 2 or 3 years. I am still waiting for MS2024 to have all commercial airline planes like FSX has. I am NOT giving up all historic jets to move to MS2024. So I am waiting until MS2024 has ALL historic airline jets. I always believe in creating screenshots showing history of commercial aviation. Regards, Aharon

Thanks for the votes and contributions lads, have decided to stay w MSFS 2020 and buy titles that are 2024 compatible where possible. As yaz prolly know I mostly fly freighters, so bought my first couple of add-on airports (both 2020/2024 compat), MM Simulations EBLG Liege, and SimWings PANC Anchorage. Gonna connect those up w something like KORD/Chicago or KCVG/Cincinnati and prolly add EDDP/Leipzig and EGSS/Stanstead at some point. Heavies ahoy !!!

That is pricey but it does look very good and has good initial reviews. Our $NZ being in the toilet certainly doesn’t help.

Yes, I was amazed that someone over the other side of the world can screenshot my old house:) These are default MSFS2024, but photogrammetry works in 2020 by default as well.

The 'autoGenerate' feature for LODs which I mentioned has now stopped working. I think this was either a 30 day trial, or a mistake by MS to include a license with the SDK. You can buy a license, prices seem to range from NZ1500 up to $15,000. So no, I won't be buying it. This tool is owned by Microsoft now, so they may rethink the cost of a license for those of us who are not major game studios. By the way, I left Bruce's offer of help hanging here a bit, but I have contacted him privately, and I hope that he can supply photos of the new buildings at Taieri.

There must be more mechanical complexity in the 777 landing gear than some early 20th century aircraft had in their entire airframe. Very informative photos and text!

I've stayed off most of the flight simulation forums for years now (this one an exception of course!) but I have to admit I do browse and occasionally post on the main MSFS Reddit, and while a lot of people there are understandably frustrated with many of the issues FS2024 has, and others are quite happy with the sim, there are some who are just plain petty. It amazes me that people are complaining that their house looks melted or their neighbour's swimming pool doesn't show up as water or whatever. I think these people need to take a step back and realise this is a flight simulator . The...

I didn't get the same photogrammetry experience the YTer did, and eventually I lost power and fell into the water. My Photogrammetry in 2024 was quite a bit worse than 2020 but I found a solution. I switched dynamic setting off. This has improved my experience in Tauranga ...haven't tried Auckland yet though.

Back on topic: Robin, can one make scenery for '24 that will also work nicely in '20 version? Thanks for the vivid mental images.... When I said in another post that we need more NZ scenery, I really meant hey, get stuck in, everyone! I'm definitely retired.... I'm not too sure that I'll keep 2020, but I will look at this if/when I ever release anything for 2024. However by then I'd expect everyone here to have moved on:)

Thanks again for doing all the spade-work, Rob. I haven't watched the stream (yet) but I'm fairly certain my take on it will be similar to yours. I'm somewhat dismayed by what's going on at Avsim. It used to be a useful/worthwhile resource, but now it's 99% hot air. So many impatient people that can't (won't) read - or apply simple common sense. I think the problem is that flight sims used to be the domain of fairly intelligent people, quite keen on helping each other out, but is now open (via XBox etc.) to the great unwashed out there - that expect everything to be ultra-simple and available...

I certainly wouldn't judge 2024 on the alpha, that's one of the dangers of this sort of post. We'll have a much better idea in 3 weeks. I'll just repeat my main tip, which has applied to all sims I've used since 2000 -- never install to the default location. As Adam says, MSFS has been a good choice so far. I loved the look of the alpha and the performance, but I also noticed a few weird things which hopefully the release version will have fixed. I have P3D v6, X-plane 11 and 12, FSX and MSFS installed, but I only fly in MSFS. I think that 2024 will be my go-to from day 1 (being the day I...

Does Google Maps provide you with your moving aircraft position on it or just a track line with waypoints on it? Cowpatz, Great question and excellent point. It is the former as I need for my screenshot flight report writings. Simbrief has mapping but it has zoom in limitations meaning I would not get names of cities, rivers, lakes, mountains, highways, bridges, buildings, and so on. GoogleMyMaps using KML files from Simbrief SOLVES the problem Regards, Aharon

Here, the router is set up to serve the home office at the other end of the house, so there's another old router attached to it, which is a lot slower, but is more reliable. So I normally get 11Mbps. The alpha worked great on this, but I'd like it a bit quicker for the release version. I am hoping to improve things a bit, but at least I know it'll work. Yes, you can use a cache just like 2020, and choose what you load there, and you can also download some things locally. At one stage with the alpha, I was zooming the drone around Italy, at a ridiculous speed, and the scenery managed to keep...

3 or 4 years    Well that is the time that MS2020/2024 will have ALL planes that FSX has. For eg, Tridents, BAC1-111s, DC-10s, 707s, 747s, L1011s, 727s, DC-8s, and so on. FSX has all planes that MS2020/2024 do not even have hence me waiting 3 or 4 more years. Regards, Aharon I'm not quite so sure about that Aharon. There has been quite a bit of discussion about the next PMDG project being a 747-100 series. Many of the various forum comments suggest that it is too old school, and along with being a study level "steam driven" machine, too difficult (ie effort needed) to...

Yes, you can only sell your soul once, and mine belongs to Microsoft. This goes back to the time they flew me to Sydney, picked me up in a limo and took me to the hotel with a bunch of 'MVPs' -- ordinary folk like me -- and looked after us very well while asking us how to deal with their user base, without being inundated with garbage. I do think that the way that MS handle their flight sim, with Jorg doing his bit from the top down, is a direct result of these talks. So I haven't 'googled' for a long time, although I refuse to say I've 'Binged' today. I still have my old Windows phones,...
