Mind boggles, you first have to lash out on expensive hardware even to see any of it! But the best way to think of AI aircraft is to view them as moving scenery. This is better than static scenery, and you get more of 'em...

QUOTE (cowpatz @ Nov 27 2007, 09:39 PM) Both sites are in dire need of an upgrade. I wonder what sort of percentage of folks subscribe to the premium services at both sites. I musta downloaded hundreds of files from the two places, startn to feel a bit guilty. ;) I guess they get some sponsored ads and what-not

Tricky these ones. There are 2 methods. The first is timing. Get down to minimum commencement altitude (2000 ft in this case) prior to Burnham. First of all as you have no DME you will need to calculate your GS. Have a listen for the 2000 ft wind (most ATIS's will have a 2000 ft wind given) and then work out the Headwind component. Apply this to the IAS to get a Ground speed. 90 kts equals 1.5 nm/min, 120kts = 2 nm/min 150kts = 2.5 nm/min. Looking at the chart you have approx 3 nm after passing BU NDB before you start the descent from 2000ft. Assuming you are travelling at 120 kts GS that...

Yeah I really liked Westsim's stuff, have some of their smaller Perth regional airports still installed. Maybe VOZ killed them off/incorperated them? I remember they said they were going to make a payware Perth International too.

Last night i hung out with a couple of fs9'ers, i was on fsx. Come together brothers, aren't we all in this because we love flight. Conservative Vs Liberal Contemporary vs Classic Red undies vs Blue undies Religious vs Atheist 'Each to their own' is the only quotation that i have ever followed. I certainly wont be moving to another forum. I have met some wonderful people here and hope we can all get along in our own colourful community. As an fsx'er i have never felt the fs9'ers to be different to me, maybe their opinion is supported by fact. Their are a hell of alot...

QUOTE (kiwibarguy @ Nov 22 2007, 01:41 PM) My next step is to get AI planes up and running for my world trip. I have FSX standard and would like to know 2 things. 1. Where is a good site for explaining AI installing? 2. Is therea good site for FSX planes or do most FS9 AI planes work fine. 3.Where is a good site for explaining what its all about? I am suprised at the high level of knowledge within our members. Good place to start is the Project AI Forums. AI is an entire subculture within flightsim. There are various freeware offerings, PAI, Evolve, World of AI etc. Installation...

Yes installers are good although some make registry entries which I am a little dubious of. The problem with this particular combo is that the Waikato is up to version 3 yet you are instructed to read through the previous versions for installation notes. The previous are for FS2002 and there are differences. Due to the complexity of the scenery, and how the various guages etc interact, it not as simple as installing traditional scenery. Simple concise installation instructions would be great and should be pitched at those of us who are a little challenged when it comes to scenery design.

Hmm true $800 dollars for FSX is expensive to a 'simmer'/'Gamer' but, comparitively it is cheap for a 3D Visualisation package with the realism that the FSX engine offers. Currently, the competition is a) ArcGlobe and b) a NZ program called K2Vi. Now these are proper 3D GIS' so cant be compared on an apples to apples basis (this distinction is important as there is a whole lot of textural data sitting behind the 'visual' stuff) However: ArcGlobe is 'sold' on a per license basis and you need other supporting software/licenses to be able to do anything...
