Just a thank you

Postby Splitpin » Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:29 pm

Just a quick word to thank you all for providing a stimulating, friendly environment to share a common interest.
The combined knowledge here is just amazing and always shared so freely.
There have been some ups and downs during my time here...but that's life.
Also nice that I have had the chance to meet(or talk to) some of you in person....a face(or voice) to a name is always good.

I can clearly remember talking to Adam on the phone when NZCH was still being thrown around by quakes, and we had a 5. something that he heard over the phone.
Having to call an ambulance for Ian Warren when he collapsed while talking to him on the phone....and getting told off for it (by him)
Also followed Rob(TopRob) around NZCH on a photo shoot for a future project on a hot NorWest day....and stopped over at Doug's place for a weekend while he sat up all night building me a new computer.
Catching up with Nick (Chopper nut) here in town to pick up a DC-3 kit, some I missed, like trying to pin down CP (Cowpatz) when I was in AKL for a few days....and almost meeting Naki at the Ohakea airshow.
Not sure what prompted this, but thank you all....Good people, a great place.

Gotta say: when you're away this place is like a morgue...

And thanks to Doug I met you and Sam on my first visit to Omaka - surely that can't be 8 years ago? :o

Mike, I remember that ...8 years ago indeed, and here we are still plodding along. That was a great visit, the car and motorbike museum was worth a visit as well ...remember that beautiful replica Vincent black shadow?

Charl, thanks very much :)

Cool, cool. ChCh is a good place to be as well (been here 6 years or so myself now). Don't sim much these days though - mostly just the occasionally Sunday night multiplayer session with guys from this forum. Since I can't afford to actually fly IRL these days, my interest has waned somewhat, even for my Round-the-World flight (still in W.Africa somewhere!). Catch you around sometime. Maybe at Rangiora, virtually, on Sunday evening for the next multiplay... :)

On ya Marty. have met a few of the NZFFer's in person now, do we need a group meetup some time? Has been floated a few times hasn't it....

deeknow and Jeff, it would be great to catch up as a group. But the logistics will be a mission.
Rangiora isn't a problem for me but the rest of you good fellas are spread far and wide....but maybe worth a look.
I can provide a great venue here in NZCH with seating for 500, a movie theater-size screen, catering, and all at a very generous price...if at all.

I can also offer a more intimate setting for groups of 10 to 30, unfortunately, I don't have any good deals on accommodation at the moment.

I've been thinking about a group catch-up (somewhere in NZ) for a while.

The alternative, and probably more practical these days, is to have a group video conference. Sadly, with virtual beers.

The video link sounds great, I'll need a camera ...maybe I'll just do a road trip in a camper loaded with phone numbers and Koha.
Just got my lotto tickets for tonight...fingers are crossed...we may be able to have a get-together...wherever we like.
