New Auckland FS pilot seeks advice

Hi folks,

By way of intro, I'm based in West Auckland, have been flying (ppl and microlights) until a heart attack X 3 put a stop to such foolery. I was involved as part of the original team who developed the NZ scenery/airports for FS3/4 back in the mid 80's, then some real flying til the first heart attack, then a break from all flying since 2000. Am now back into FS and have invested in MS FS 2020 and the full Logitech yoke, rudder pedals, throttle quadrants X 2, 3 X full panels plus 2 X gauges. I have got these all plugged in but not able to fly or use some of the important controls despite Google and weeks of youtube tuturials.

Am having serious issues with mapping, profiles and just getting the panels to behave in MS2020, and would dearly love to find someone local who would be willing to show me the ropes who uses FS2020 and the full Logitech controls.

I just got a notification of a private message, which surprised me as it's been quite a while since I posted here (I'm still simming, but in a bit of a quiet phase at the moment). It was from Bruiser. When I logged in (under my old account), the message was not meant for me, but Radar88. (Did you also get this message, Radar88? It was a simple thanks, so nothing really confidential.) I clicked on Radar88's name and was able to view his profile. I don't think I could edit it (at least I hope not, and of course I wouldn't do that anyway). I believe it was the publicly viewable profile.

But I shouldn't be able to receive a private message that was meant for somebody else. So whoever is running the forum nowadays needs to look into that.

Hmmm ... I got a copy of that one too!!!! Maybe Bruiser had a few people selected as a result of a member search <??>.

Ah, OK. Sounds like it was maybe Bruiser's mistake rather than a forum bug. Just be careful in future not to select everyone if you don't want your PM being read by the entire forum!

I've just been going through my post history. Since I joined in 2009 (and haven't been here since) as an avid flight simmer I've gone to flight school, got a PPL, CPL and ATPL credits, built a career outside of aviation, launched a start-up.... and just last week I built a new PC for MSFS 2020.

Quite a pleasant surprise to hear from this place again and marvellously timed also.

Congratulations on your PPL, CPL and ATPL, Michael. While I haven't gone to flight school myself (yet), I did manage to get in a trial flight with the Wellington Aero Club during their 90th anniversary celebrations last November. It was a fantastic experience, although getting in and out of that little Piper Tomahawk was a bit challenging! Still, it was one of the highlights of my life. And as with you, it was inspired by flight simming.
