Packing to shift, the ideal time to go through my old rubbish and see what can be thrown away. It's amazing how much of my stuff has become obsolete this time around:) I mean, how many parallel printer cables am I going to use ever again? The last printer I bought I just plugged in, and it found the wifi network....

I have video and audio connectors which I can't ever remember what they did back in the day. And I never thought I'd end up with a drawer full of modems. All rubbish.

My phone takes better videos than the video camera I bought when I set up the business -- to film trips to airports -- except for the limited zoom range.

I was thinking of junking the Xbox HD-DVD drive, since this is definitely obsolete, not to mention I don't even have a working Xbox any more, but I plugged it into the PC just to see if there was any way to rip them now -- 5 minutes googling and I figured I had all the tools to do it, so I'll hang onto the drive and DVDs for a while. As a test I ripped Topgun and streamed it to my phone -- now I couldn't do that the last time I packed for a shift!

I think you're about 5 minute's walk from my son/daughter-in-law/grandson, so that wouldn't be a bad idea, Marty:)

Yeah, Diamond Harbour, it's a nice house, I prefer it to this one. Rents have gone sky-high in Christchurch, so getting a 3-bedroom house in Diamond Harbour for the price of a 3 BR in Christchurch is a good deal.

I have a spare bedroom full to the ceiling with all my various Computers, and all their hardware and software dating back to the late 1970's....

Spectrum 48K, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC 64, Amiga 1200, Atari, games machines, PC's, etc, etc, etc....ad infinitum!

Piles of cases, motherboards, graphics cards, PSU's, hard drives, floppy drives, various printer types, CRT monitors, and enough various cables to stretch around the World...twice!

All saved, (I never throw anything away!) and still in working order, 'cos it might come in useful now and again...and someone might like it all ?.....

....!

NAH!...my Lads say!....

"Throw it all away, Dad!"

"Its ALL totally obsolete now, and of no use to anyone....."

"Go down to the local landfill site, and tip it all into the big hole!"

"...and somewhere in that bedroom you may find a spare BED!"

So...all I need is someone with a motor car, 'cos I cant transport it all to the Tip on my Motor bike!

P.S. My other spare bedroom is full of all sorts of musical instruments (13 various keyboards alone!).....

...I'm running out of; "spare bedrooms!"......

Give it a couple of months and you will be able to upload them all to a cloud or something

I have two boxes full of old CD-drives and other bits, and a laundry basket full of cables, an IP phone and suchlike - not to mention the other stuff I just remembered in the drawer beside me.
One day I'll take it all to a recycling charity place - there is high-grade copper in the cables, so they might get a quid out of it.

My flatmate originally built this place, but sold it a few years ago to finance development of the subdivision around it. The timing wasn't great, thanks to financial crises and earthquakes, but she'll get there. She rented this place from the new owner, but now it's on the market, so we have to get out.

She would like to stay in Lyttelton, but the rents here have gone crazy. There are a lot of people taking advantage of the short-term need for rentals while earthquake damaged homes are being repaired, and this kind of drives the long-term rental prices up.

I'll be relying on the ferry when we shift, which will be interesting -- Sunday morning was a typical foggy day on the harbour, here's a shot looking out the window here, the new place is under the fog somewhere across the harbour...

Remember that view so well from my visit, I thought it was absolutely breathtaking. It'll be interesting visiting a new place though.

Apple 2E was my earliest. Still got it boxed up in pieces!
And my favourite was, and still is, my trusty 1982 Sinclair Spectrum 48K which I still program in BASIC and Zilog Z80 Machine Code.
I have a ton of hardware, and crates of software for it!

I may throw all my old PC stuff away, but I could never get rid of all my lovely old 8-bit and 16-bit Computers, I still get loads of pleasure from them!

Ahh... memories....
First computer I paid for myself was in 1983-ish and was the BASIC programmable Casio 702XP, I had an external tape drive for storage, and even a thermal printer.

Courtesy of (Sir) Clive Sinclair, which started off all the craze for home computers in 1980 (ZX80/ZX81)!

Together with the Commodore C64, and Amstrad CPC 464, ...BBC B.....etc...etc...
