Godzone Store changes...

A couple of things relating to the Godzone Store -- first, I've tidied up the way news is available on the Store home page, as it was a bit messy keeping this up to date manually. I looked at a lot of 'content management' addons for Zen Cart, but in the end I've settled on Facebook. This might surprise a lot of people who know me, I'm not a real 'social media' fan, or even social for that matter, but it does offer a nice easy way to add news etc, both on the Store home page, and within Facebook itself.

Take a look at the Godzone site, you can check it from time to time and see what's new, or follow Godzone on Facebook.

The home page also replaces some random promotional links with a showcase video, showing Nelson at the moment.

Main new news item is that Supercity has a new permanent 'legacy' price -- reduced from $39 to $18. To match this, the FSX Legacy Collection's special price of $79 has become the new permanent price, with another $10 off at the moment, so all up $69 for Supercity, Across the Strait, Rotorua & Tauranga, plus Southern Lakes Adventure.

Just a bit more info here, as I had an email over the weekend asking why I was 'forcing people to join Facebook' to view my site. This is not the case at all, although I can understand using Facebook to keep people informed of any Godzone news might be a bit confusing to some.

But there are a lot of reasons why this is a good way to handle news on my site. If you don't like Facebook, or don't want to join Facebook, then you don't have to. You can still read through the Godzone news. You won't miss out on anything, you just have to pop by the Godzone site now and then. However, if you do use Facebook you can choose whatever level of involvement you want with Godzone. By simply 'liking' the Godzone facebook page you can see any news or other updates directly on your Facebook feed. This is exactly the same information which appears in the scrolly Facebook box on the Godzone site, but without the hassle of having to visit the site.

In the old pre-Facebook days you could sign up to the Godzone Store to receive news, but really I was never a big fan of bulk emails, so you might not have received many of these. Now you can still receive any news, or not, without the hassle of bulk emailing.

This is the way things are heading on the web -- I think that it makes more sense to control all the news which comes through the web on one consolidated site, and Facebook does this well. You can choose how much news you get to see, and how often you read it, without dozens of different emails every week. Of course, you can still get your Facebook feed via email if you wish. Your choice.

So if you do use Facebook to help organize your web news, stop by the Godzone pageand 'like' it. If it doesn't work out, 'unlike' it.
