I have to say those last pics look great....now if they come up witth a bunch of nice looking aircaft with full systems, great FDE, detailed airports AND landscape that resembles what have in NZ (ie lakes, rivers, roads, towns, cities bush, mountain etc) I will be interested. For now though FSX (and maybe Xplane?) & P3D is the best we have although that requires the likes of Orbx, VLC and other add ons.

how the silver tube moves thru the air is important, why do people even bother to upgrade from FS2000, FS2002 or FS9? Oh, that's right - prettier graphics... cool.gif

Sorting a few issues last night i took a break from FSX, so back to the future WWI Ooops ... RoF had the new engine - least a better smoother run so they say , YEP for the $11plus bucks it is a lotta fun but i was also looking at the detail and ground texture , the autogeneration the effects , FSX has in a way and people forget have really done a bloody amazing job , as i got hooked further , come to realise its the fun factor and as /when you spend so much time building or changing what FSX has to offer and making it as real -
We forget the point - its also for fun so Fonterra winkyy.gif grass and P3D smile.gif may be on to something ... again we dont see any large airports in screens yet but hey 'give a day or two' unsure.gif or three

Well there is a big question mark over P3D now.

Read here.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

...but FSX is a dinosaur that people keep putting lipstick on to make it "look good". And you and the guys putting on the lipstick do a great job. But it's still just lipstick - the glaring visual flaws (which are far more important that any technical ones) appear to be permanent and irredeemable.

I think we agree more than you think -- I try and deal with the limitations of FSX every day. It is just a matter of semantics, the limitations I try and work around (or work with) are similar to your 'glaring visual flaws'. I suppose that the very first simulator I ever tried had glaring visual flaws (wire-frame mountains!), but I never thought of it in those terms.

But my main point is not that you are comparing apples and oranges, but comparing an apple which exists with an orange which doesn't. Even if Outerra has all the promise in the world, it is still just another vapourware at the moment.

One thing I think most people are failing to comprehend, is that Outerra is just an engine. The actual official game developed by the developers who are making Outerra is Anteworld. Anteworld described by Shawn, is a futuristic game where you return to civilisation, probably Earth from another planet. The major cities will be overgrown with flora, vines and what not. You need to rebuild civilisation. You already have advanced human tools to help you. So infact half of what is currently in Anteworld will be removed in the final release because it is not corresponded to the games storyline or does not fit in in anyway.

I have pre-ordered Anteworld and I'm loving it. The Cessna 172SP is great, along with the AH-64 Longbow which is awefully hard to control without a proper collective.
The editing side is flexible and easy to use as well. You can make roads, runways and place buildings.

I'm very excited to see the final product, as repeated by many - if this is only the tech demo...
