I know there are a few ex "mob" guys on the forum, and i was wondering if you knew about this. You can apply at http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz . I put in an application about 6 months ago, and was told it would take about 4 years, as they were working on the over 70's first....but i got mine via courier today. Its a nice looking medal, and worth having....it was your time you gave after all.

Not just a random thing, they engrave your name and service number and rank (as at your first 3 years service) on the side.

Im quite chuffed...and i know it sounds a bit corny.....but we did give up our "normal" life , for how ever many years......so go for it .

A good find Marty, just reading through it they are calling for the over 50's at the mo, guess I'll be waiting a while. Will be a nice addition to the four I already have...not to boast

..... this one gives me 2....dont worry about the over 50's (of which i am one) there appears to be little interest from that sector at the moment.....go for it H5.

yeah they came thick and fast in my era, was lucky enough to get two trips to Timor and one to Bougainville. And a stint under the UN gave me the 4th.

Yes I put my application in shortly after they announced these, simply so I did not forget. I knew it would take a while, but was very surprised when I got mine about six weeks ago. A very nice medal as well.

Good man, let me know how you get on......and re the service number, your right......i cant remember what i had for dinner last night, but i will never forget my service number...C86......

Thanks for the headsup Marty!! I'll apply shortly. Interesting comment from Deane - I'm still waiting for my gong for my deployment to the Solomon Islands which I applied for about 5 years ago so I'll have to chase that one up too!!

Well, 10 working days have passed since I applied so I contacted them as they requested and got this when I sent it:

"Thank you for completing the contact form. Please note that all non-urgent enquiries to NZDF Archives and the Medals Office are dealt with in strict rotation and a response will be generated in accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act (i.e. within 20 working days.)"

Maybe if I had waited till January it would be quickerÂ

Never in the armed forces , but s**t due to the amount of work and following the history , maybe i should get a listing .

18 years in my case, including Antarctica 6 times and a few other places. Good times (mostly)

Thanks for the info. I thought the issue was a lot further away than that.

No problem Allan, i was reading today that since April this year they have recived 17,700 applications and have issued over 13,000 medals. So they seem to be onto it.
So hang there.....its on its way.

Surprise, surprise. Never got a reply but today the item arrived, 51/2 weeks after applying. The miniature looks weird as it's the smallest and its colour makes it look the opposite of "shining like a tanner up a youknowwhere" compared to the others.Â

Cutbacks in government departments....everything is being downsized !!

With a longer ribbon, it should look ok. The ribbons should be all the same width, but hard to tell from photo? I only have my LSGC medal to compare with and they are the same.

Still I like the medal and the finish.
