X-plane, FSX, scenery, questions..

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Hi guys, I have not had fsx on my machine for a little while due to different things, and I have been flying a10 when I get the urge, there is a lot to learn on that bird.

In the last week I have had the civ sim urge and I have been binging a little bit on it smile.gif

In the last five days I have downloaded the xplane 10 demo then bought it because I figure thats the only way to give it a fair evaluation. I then joined as a developer for prepar3d so I could download that and see what the fuss was. Of course I have owned FSX from day one so that is still about as well.

I am not sure which way I want to go, fsx is easy because I already have some scenery and payware aircraft but I remember some things that just irked me about it. I tried xplane and it was a bit ho hum but some things were really good. Approaches at night as well as night landings were very cool. It has a different feeling about it that I like. Not more or less, it's just a bit different.

The thing is that there is little in the way of payware for it compares to FSX. Lots of free stuff with some big downloads as well..

One of the questions I am getting to is are there any xplane users about that have got a large library of objects/scenery for xplane? Are you in auckland, could I impose on you to get copies of the free stuff? I could see 60-80 gigs of downloads otherwise!!

I have not played with prepar3d yet, I have heard it is just FSX SP3 with some graphical goodies and some stuff moved from the CPU to the GPU which is encouraging as I run my sim at 5960x1080.

If I want to fly with you guys I assume you fly locally, nz? FSX does look like the preferred option for this area.

Thanks,
Jason
